I disagree. In fact - an effectively bifurcated Sun Belt Conference with 4 or 5 well established teams winning 8 games or more at the expense of weaker teams could actually be a positive in football. This conference needs multiple 8 9 10 game winners with some key out of conference wins to progress. As you stated - this is about public perception. And if we can manage 3 plus teams with 8 plus wins and bowl appearances on a regular basis - we will be making strides.
If Boise State were in the PAC 10/12 would they have been able to rise as they have? Probably not.

Thats a good point, and the public is already familiar with Troy and Ark State and the likes, so when they hear that the Sun Belt Championship will be between MTSU with a 10-2 record and Ark State with a 9-3 record (don't get mad i'm just making stuff up) it will sound a heck of a lot better and the public wont know the difference honestly.

Don't let this “We" attitude associated with realignment fool you; there is no "we" attitude. Talk to anyone associated with ASU, Troy, WKU, MTSU, UL, and ULM and there focus is winning.
At ASU they have made it known that their focus is to have a football team that wins enough to be ranked in the top 25 on a regular basis, and they have a plan and surprisingly a good one to do so. They are investing their resources in top quality coaches and those infrastructure improvements that will help them recruit better athletes than those at the other SBC schools.
I’m sure that, winning is the focus at the other SBC schools that have shown they can win, and as it stands they are only losing one of those schools.

You say that as if no one at all in the surrounding markets will ever watch a Texas State game. In terms of football viewership in Dallas it's (1. Cowboys, 2. Mavericks, 3. University of Texas, 4. Texas A&M, 5. Oklahoma 6. TCU, 7. SMU, 8. UNT and that's still debatable between Texas Tech which is less than 100 miles away.
I think you don't like the addition of them to the Sun Belt because if UNT doesn't start winning in conference USA and TxSt wins in the Sun Belt your going to have to fight them for recruits.
It is 350 miles to Texas Tech (Lubbock) from Dallas. Baylor (Waco) is 100 miles from Dallas. Would I be correct to assume you ment Baylor?
