I'd keep Troy on that list. I wouldn't write them off just because of one bad season.

We lost quality programs? La Tech was the best in a terrible WAC. We like UNT, but you guys havent been to a bowl in 7 years, and FIU is an outlier anyway.
CUSA may really end up regretting these adds.

Don't be such a freak'n hypocrite, please.

Oh you guys have an excellent program. But you are in the middle of essentially Miami. You and FAU are the only league teams that everyone has to fly to play, except maybe Troy and USA.

Id hate to lose FIU, buut Ill be just fine with the improved travel.

Of course not, they still are a top program in the Belt. I expect they'll be back at it very soon. I see more upsets over the old "BCS" conference teams coming in the next couple of years.

Troy, is like UNT at the start of conference play, they are yesterday’s news. Quicker, faster, meaner, hungrier predators have come on board. They better hope for a CUSA invite.

RE: Benson comments on Texas St
We lost UNT and FIU but are getting, it appears, Texas State. In this scenario we lost UNT which has some potential but hasnt shown it recently in football and has a decent basketball program. FIU was a dumpster fire of a basketball program and probably the best football program on the board (as of now). We lost the equivelent of a good football and basketball program. Texas State is only potential but I think its probably the best on the board for us in terms of potential. So we lost the equivelent of one program. It could've been much worse. In the round of realignment which saw the Big 12 lose A&M and Missou, the Big East virtually destroyed, CUSA losing Houston, UCF, Memphis, SMU, the MWC losing SD State and Boise, the MAC losing Temple, the CAA losing (for now) Georgia State, we lose the equivelent of one school. Plus Ga. State's bball is about as good as UNT.

Charlotte isnt even ready or able yet and their basketball isnt so hot right now so (assuming they're in line for the new CUSA). UTSA is good potential but only that. La. Tech has a credible football program but none of these are losses to us anyway.

I think we're comparatively in good shape.

The opposition to expansion will be simply the fans that dont want to have to deal with FCS teams.

In reality however, this is what the SBC should be. Small Market FBS teams within a strong geographic area fighting to prove they belong. Its our brand, its what we are. We're not a terrible conference, and who cares what the public thinks of us. Its not like they are going to watch CUSA football either.

We have got to learn as fans to embrace what we are. The small market feel is why I like the Sun Belt better then any other FBS league. These are teams that represent every person im America who ever lived in a small town.

Welcome Georgia State and Texas State. Glad to have you. UNT and FIU you will be missed but with one more year to go I hope all SBC teams kick yalls tails all the way back to Texas and Florida!!

In the short history of Sun Belt football, there have been some one year "flash in the pan" champions, neither Troy or UNT is one of them. Our programs had staying power. One season is not the mark of a failed program, or the anointing of another.

Just sayin'...

It looks like C-USA's plan is to keep separation from the Sun Belt by not leaving any quality programs for the Sun Belt to rebuild with. It looks like the belt will have to expand with FCS teams in its region, or look west to the WAC refugees. Better to stay at 9.
The fact they took UNT, and UTSA pretty much shot to hell your "quality porgrams" remark.

La Tech and FIU can play good football, but good football is not what CUSA is about, if it were there are 6-7 teams in the SBC ahead of UNT, but if you are a UNT fan you already know that to be a fact.

I havent seen in quality program come out of UNT in a long, long time when it comes to sports. Let them go. I would be more much happier keeping FIU. Good football and baseball programs and great athletic facilities. KEEP IT IN THE SOUTH AND OUT OF TEXAS!!!!05-stirthepot05-stirthepot

That's funny... because UNT beat Troy last season, and UNT just finished winning two Sun Belt Conference Championships this past week.

If you scroll down a few threads, you'd see UNT ranks second in the Bubbas Cup standings, and Troy is last.

Look, if the Belt chooses not to expand in Texas, I'm with you. I don't think Texas State will add the value the Belt wants. Texas State has no history in the FBS, and San Marcos is not a hot bed for recuiting or a major media market.

Just for the record, Texas is part of the South.

How many times has North Texas beaten Troy besides last year. Technically Texas is in the southwest. That isnt the real south.

You sir are a bitter fool.

This is true.

But it will be harder I think for anyone to establish a long dominance like in years past. We have been maturing as a conference and there is likely to more competition at the top year in and year out.

Troy, stAte, Louisiana, and WKU are the new top dawgs. I suspect one of us will be winning the title each season for a while.

FIU, UNT, and maybe MTSU will be in the mix next season. After next season, who knows...

Middle Tennessee has been fairly consistant so I wouldn't count them out. WKU and ULL really have one good season and time will tell if they can sustain. Right now i consider ASU as the best program that will be in the conference with the others fighting it out for 2nd place.
