ODU already has a football program. I'm sure they'll be on the same timeline as Georgia State when it comes to their FBS transition. Except that ODU will be in C-USA and Georgia State will be in the Sun Belt.

Charlotte will begin their program at the FBS level just like South Alabama did.

Good luck to Charlotte trying to put together a FBS schedule with home games. South had a four year head start because we knew when we were going FBS. Unless Charlotte isn't moving up till 2016, they're going to find the going difficult.

And Georgia State is going to have the same issue.

Georgia State will be playing a Sun Belt schedule in 2013. So we'll only have 3/4 slots to fill.

Your conference games are the easy ones to figure out. The issue is getting an decent OOC schedule. Its not easy. Even for existing Sun Belt FBS teams.

An optimal OOC schedule for a move up. You have 4 OOC games. Ideally, you'll have 2 home and 2 away games. Ideally, you should be able to conceivably win 3 of these games. Scheduling games at Alabama is foolish for a move up. Scheduling a series with Indiana or Wake Forest, much better. Since you'd probably like to schedule your away games in areas where you recruit, you're likely looking at CUSA, ACC, Southeastern Big East teams, or lower end SEC teams. Just go look and see how many games for 2013 or 2014 or 2015 these teams have available. Everyone wants to play Indiana. They're AQ and they stink. And they don't fund their program properly so that they might be willing to do a 1 for 1.

I was kind of hoping I was going to start to see news by Ga State of upcoming OOC games. I seriously hope that your AD is working on that.

RE: CUSA takes ODU and Charlotte
If we only have 10 in Football in 2013, then Georgia State's league schedule is simple because they could simply just pick up what would have been FIU's schedule that year. Same with Texas State and UNT.

If we expand beyond that for 2013, then we have to redo the whole schedule.

As for GSU, they are going to have to beg for home games early on. All of us had to do that..especially ones that moved up really quickly. You're not going to walk in as a brand new program and convince a BCS school to give you a home and home. You might be able to get a game at their place, and then a home game 3 years later once you've built the program.

There are exceptions as both USA and Troy have gotten big home games quickly, but both of those schools had been prepping for a D1 move for a while. Georgia State has not.

They are the older folks although who don't really get the whole market TV appeal some of the these schools who haven't even played a snap of football have.

I was reading your message board earlier and got the same vibe. Some are in full panic mode. Others are calm and simply confused as to why CUSA wants a market thats never played football...

I say screw CUSA. Give us the 22 extra schollies and we'll make them pay on the field, starting with ECU on Sept 1, 2012.

Doesnt matter what the perception is now, the SB will be better, and its coming soon.

Correct. Though WKU may be more "west" than Troy, it's better to keep rivals together than to assign solely on a geographical basis.

I'd be happy with this as an MT fan.

It allows us to keep our game with Troy, and if we follow the SEC model (with the 2 permanent cross division rivals - we keep WKU on the sched). I can also drive to every one of those east teams easily, except FAU.

From what I understand and have read in 3 different places is the CUSA had a few contacts with MTSU. And MTSU president said they were more comfy in the Sun Belt. If that is in deed true its probably a bone head decision.

Not really knowing what we know now. The only way this could get regretful is if we start adding NMSU or Idaho.

Ya, that's what MT fans have been thinking. If true, there might be rioting, lol... A lot of people are very upset including me, but what's done is done...

Somebody has to be split. I split Troy and South. How would you do it?

Your divisions would have to be different for football and for the basketball/Olympic Sports.

For FB:

EAST
- GA State
- GA South
- App State
- MT
- WKU
- FAU

WEST
- USA
- Troy
- ULM
- ULL
- ASU
- TSU

For BB/Oly. Sports (aka "non-revenue sports"):

EAST
- GA State
- GA South
- App. State
- MT
- WKU
- Troy

WEST
- USA
- ASU
- UALR
- UTA
- ULM
- ULL

That really gives you compact divisions for the non-revenue sports which is important as it would be good on travel - which is cheap - which is good...well 'cause these sports generally don't produce revenue on their own.

It seems ODU hasn't accepted as yet, could this result in a second offer to MTSU? http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt-...1537.story

If its true, it could be the most dumbfounding non move since 1992 when the Metro conference gave Marshall an open invite when VA Tech left them standing at the alter. I could only imagine where our basketball program would be if we would have accepted that invite. Our leadership then had no vision for our future. I thank Tennesse every day for hiring J. Wade Giley.
