This is a good place to share the latest and greatest from our friends at Always a Dragon. DC's analysis suggests that this year's Dragons could be very strong this year and maybe finish higher than their predicted third place finish.

5-10 years ago, if we were to look into the future and if you told me that in 2021, Drexel would play a non-conference schedule with these teams, and the best team on the schedule would be Abilene Christian, with Princeton being 2nd best, I'd say you're crazy.

RE: Mens basketball 21-22
I was going to re-visit shortly since we were all over the board on our guesses. Drachen was clearly spot on with our mediocrity. I did want to post our schedule again so we can see how teams moved up or down now that the season is nearly over.

Syracuse (L)- 86
St Joes (W)- 171
Tulane (L)- 103
Charlotte (W)- 178
Jax St (L)- 140
FDU (W)- 350
Princeton (L)- 109
Abilene (L)- 142
Coppin State (W)- 302
Temple (NA)- 113
La Salle (NA)- 247

Some real dregs that stayed dregs, but overall not a bad schedule. Some tough losses we had with Syracuse, Jax St and Tulane. All 3 improved and ended up as ok losses. Princeton still burns but they stayed level, which isnt easy in the IVY, since it pulls you down. Certainly if we plan to be successful a schedule like this has to be a minimum every year. No top end teams so it would be nice to get back to scheduling those types of games. Syracuse was obviously that team, but we also know they have been average for at least 5 years. And certainly when we have a team that can really compete we need a harder schedule to give any chance at an at large. We can all agree this team has been frustratingly inconsistent in a season where we had a ton of experience returning. Still comes down to march but always fun to look back on what we pretend to know or think in November

Sooooo, the NET is shockingly accurate?

Teams Drexel lost to: 86, 103, 109, 140, 142
Drexel: 145
Teams Drexel beat: 171, 178, 302, 350

I know, I know. It's just out of conference.

"Early reports out of Philly have this club with a higher shooting ceiling and a better defensive mindset. Go-to guy: Cam Wynter, who has improved yearly from 33 to 36 to 42% as a 3-point shooter. Dragons fact: starting five in last season's CAA title game had fewer than 10 combined scholarship offers coming out of high school."

JMU- 125
Drexel- 135
Northeastern- 136
Delaware- 190
Elon- 209
Hofstra- 232
Charleston- 253
UNC Wilmington- 303
Towson- 306
William & Mary- 325

I think this is a good place to look from the start of the season. Towson and UNCW were major surprises. Hofstra was better than predicted. NU and JMU were the biggest disappointments. NU was a surprises fall to the bottom. Delaware was a bit disappointing. JMU, ya know....I guess their players didn't have it in them to stay focused considering how the CAA gave them the worst screwing in the history of competitive sports.

For Drexel, they may have lost a few games they should have won, but I don't really see their season as a huge disappointment. And they still have a chance to redeem themselves next weekend.

Princeton game still stings, especially considering how good of a season they've had. Drexel was basically 1 Cam FT away from wrapping that up, and then the ceiling fell on them.

So many losses this year were missed opportunities. Change a couple of results here and there and it makes a big difference on season outlook.

Worth noting that we rank 317th in the country out of 358 on the KenPom "Luck" metric. With a bit better luck, maybe we have one or two more wins.

I would read it as more we are who we are. We beat bad teams, lose to average or decent ones. Its been consistent under Spiker

Don't like being a downer, especially on opening night. Think we'll very much miss TJ and see last year as a bit fluky where we were mostly healthy and never got shut down by a Covid case. Could see us going 0-2 against NU and/or JMU, so that 10-8 is my optimistic record.

Nothing bad about your prediction at all. 15-14 and 10-8 is pretty spot on to your guess above. The splits were off in conference, but solid stuff.

I was clearly too high on this team with what we returned. We saw glimpses of why this team should win most nights, but didnt see it with any consistency

RE: Mens basketball 21-22
Eh, if I were really smart I'd have said that last year's team was consistently inconsistent too, which is what I mainly based my prediction on for this year, and they just happened to catch a hot shooting streak for three games. My other assumption was that until they proved me otherwise, I'd pick them to continue to struggle on the road. Happily, they seemed to prove me wrong on that one (5-4 CAA), and maybe if we had any semblance of a home court advantage (5-4 CAA), you guys who were closer to 20 wins would have been correct.

Not quite. Even JB didnt make any of the 3 teams. Not sure Cam deserved 1st team this season either. Tough to argue our selections. Glad Amari made the 3rd team.

Sad to hear, but as you said, not unexpected. Cam will be snatched up by a power 5 program pretty quickly. He did help lead our program to a championship in one of the four years that he was here, so I guess we can't ask for much more from him.

This is just another example of how the rule changes have made things so much tougher on mid-majors. But it all works out in the end and the programs and coaches that do the best recruiting are the ones that will win in the end.

Really, I am amazed Cam stuck around for 4 years. I thought after his rookie of the year win, he would follow in Damion Lee's footsteps and transfer to a high major program.

I admit, I am mostly confounded by who is still eligible and for how long. (Like, why didn't Coletrane Washington redshirt last year?) But Drexel also benefits from these rule changes. Melik Martin was a really solid addition this year, and I see no reason why Drexel couldn't pick up some contributors this off season. Look at that showboat kid Bryant got from Rutgers. He basically carried them into the NCAAs.

Wynter could have broken the All-time score and Assist record at Drexel if he stayed. However, he could get drafted if he goes to a big school.
