One thing you guys forget Uconn has the backing of United technologies corporation Pratt & Whitney and others and there's no way they want them to go FCS in football.
You heard it here it ain't ever happening.I see them probably joining the sun belt or conference USA just so they can get bowl games

New Mexico State and UMass just announced their bowl tie-ins. We'll have no problem getting them. It's just a (big) matter of getting to 6 wins.

As a recent resident of CT (15 years), I know that the State government is run by morons who are rapidly bankrupting the state while driving corporations out of state. (Indeed, all the key UTC’s leaders are moving to Massachusetts)
Even if there was a viable way to make independence work, I have no confidence that UConn and State Government leaders are up to the task.

It is a good day. The AAC sheds dead weight and will receive a substantial parting gift.
UConn FB will join the FCS. The unknown variable is timing, but my guess is five years.

Be careful what you wish for.... you just might get it.
Adios to the school who’s athletic supporters were never happy here.... except HuskyU, who most likely could have fun in a phone booth. No more bitching, moaning and complaining here and elsewhere. No more endless reliance on the ghost of Jim Calhoun and his 3.85 national championships. What have you done for us lately? Nada.
However, I do hope they win the Big East title next year. A mid-pack AAC team ruling the Big East would be such delicious irony.
Hasta Lou Way To Go Huskies.

P&W is a subsidiary of UTC, which was just bought by Raytheon. The corporate headquarters for Raytheon are in Waltham Massachusetts, about 5 miles from Boston College. Good luck with that corporate fundraising for athletics.

When our basketball and football both improve next year, it will confirm that the AAC was holding us back! Thanks!

You mean got trashed at the Fiesta Bowl and had like 3000 fans in attendance? The MAC schools that have gone to BCS/NY6 games have been more competitive and brought more fans.

In all seriousness, I do wish UConn the best going forward. I don't begrudge them for leaving, although I question the decision. That said, if they can put together a decent indy schedule every year and average 6-7 wins, they might be able to survive in FBS. I think the hardest thing long-term will be scheduling home-and-homes with P5 programs. They are enough of a name right now to swing some decent games, but if they continue averaging 2-3 wins per year, that may not continue.

They sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nasty.
You can stay. You have AAC heart. If all the uconnatrarians were like you y'all would be winners
I am staying. AAC is good stuff (especially football). I will still follow these teams. After all, I need to watch winning football somewhere since it won’t be happening at The Rent anytime soon.
They will be there, just not wearing UConn jerseys.

True. But is that spin any different than Mikey’s “P6” spin campaign? Either you are in the club or you are not...and none of us are in the club.
Yes, it's different. The P6 campaign is marketing. Perhaps you don't understand that... With our new TV deal (resulting from on the field results, ratings, and yes the marketing effort...), finally getting paid what this conference is worth, we are a hullava lot closer to being a real tweener than anyone in the G4+Uconn. Getting close to old Big East $$.
You guys however are going downhill fast... Not trolling, your football record is up in this thread. Best of luck for the future though...
UConn going Big East and Indy in football is in many ways marketing, too. It will help us play to our strengths and get back in the national conversation in basketball..perhaps you don’t understand that.
Lifting out of the G5 won’t really matter too much. AAC teams will have the same shot at a national championship in football that we will... none.
Love you, but I'm gonna disagree here. Let's say some random AAC team and UCONN (miraculously) both go undefeated. Sure, the AAC team would earn themselves a NY6 bowl, but UCONN would have defeated 5 P5 teams compared to just 2 for the undefeated AAC team. We all know how much the CFP Committee values P5 wins over the strength of a G5 conference. UCONN would be better positioned to make the CFP in that scenario.
Bruh, the only playoff UConn has a chance at making is the FCS bracket. And we all know that ain't even happening.

Memphis is in the top 25 in both football and basketball. The AAC is really holding Memphis down. UCONN is just using the AAC has a excuse for not getting the job done. UCONN football is headed toward the graveyard. Basketball is improving because they hire a solid coach, not because they joined the Big East. That said the New BE is a solid basketball conference. I can see why UCONN fans value the BE name. That name is a connection to the glory days of Jim Calhoun .
I wish UCONN well in the BE.

If the current four team version of the CFP continues, this is probably right. I think we all expect an 8 team version where the top G5 champion gets a bid.
That said, having been in a conference with UConn for a while, and the Huskies having been the source of Voodoo 5 (USF's nadir under Jim Leavitt), I'm sad to see them go. I'll be especially sad to see HuskyU go. He had a sense of humor. Wish I could say the same for some of the others on this board who just like to flame and troll...
