RE: Goodbye UConn Fooball
I always liked being in a conference with UConn, another northeast public with a strong basketball legacy. But the second the announcement was made and their fans took to shitting on the conference and every program in it, UConn really became one of my most hated fan bases.

I just don't get the need to lash out at all these other schools that were all trying to make the best of getting dealt a tough hand post realignment. We were making it work, improving year by year. I guess UConn needs something to blame besides themselves for their athletics basement dwelling and their football program circling the drain.

I hope they fail in the Big East and their fans wake up and realize they're not going "back" anywhere. They're joining a new conference and will play exactly half its road games in Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Indiana against private, mostly Catholic schools with which they share no common culture. Villanova and Georgetown are the only programs UConn has traditionally cared about, and I hope those 4 games a year are worth it. Syracuse and BC won't be pulling the same move UConn did.

Should've joined the A10; legit regional league they'd have a shot to win when VCU and Dayton are down.

UConn will never be a competitive program at the FBS level again.

They never were competitive once they no longer had the BCS welfare to lean on. 07-coffee3 FCS is were they should have stayed and the Big East is where they belong. Vaya con Dios Huskies.

I remember 10 to 15 years ago having a discussion about UConn and trying to explain why they were always going to struggle. I might have to go back and find that thread just to point it out to people.

I believe it was the old Yankee Conference back then. Which morphed into the Atlantic 10, then became the CAA. Villanova does play solid football in that league though.

None of us is a member of this league because we sincerely want to be. And, to be frank and on this theme, UConn does not "want" to be in the BE. Rather it would prefer to be in the Atlantic Coast. However, the BE is a better fit for UConn than the American and UConn is taking advantage of this opportunity. I fully understand that.

Now, I shall resume eating some organic nuts and drinking a fine micro-brewed craft beer.

Yea, but here's the thing. UCONN was never going to get invited to the ACC, as Cincy and Memphis have a better chance of that happening, and that ain't happening either. Just because you "prefer" something, doesn't mean you're entitled to it. They came up from FCS/ I-AA football, less than two decades ago. That's never going to get you into that conference, no matter how mediocre they may be as a conference, in that sport.

SNY is an important backer of UConn basketball and they have some serious say in what happens in UConn sports.
I think they're also a part of the reason for this move to the big East which is a power conference and gets tons of respect in basketball.

Our school went through some bad coaches which brought the basketball and football teams down but we will be back and all you Memphis tiger fans, that are big-time jealous of us can go s*** in a hat.

If Boston college can thrive in the New England market the University of Connecticut can also end of story. All you haters of Uconn sports wish us bad and you will be embarrassed when come around again. Hiring mr. Hurley is a start for the basketball team. HCRE we'll bring the football team back.

We have fantastic facilities and there's no way we are going down to FCS with what we have invested in our football program. With a 40000 seat stadium and the backing of United technologies we have the groundwork.

That’s the Boston College that is meaningless in basketball and hasn’t been relevant in football since Matt Ryan was there over a decade ago? Also, the Boston College that plays in the ACC, not as an independent with no championship or even a bowl game to play for?

OK, I guess it's all relative. 44-44 with a losing record in conference over the past 7 years would be thriving for a UConn football fan.

Wouldn't be having this conversation if UConn had gone with the BB schools in the split and left their FB with the AAC and Navy as FB only. The AAC would have accepted UConn for FB only then to balance the Navy's FB only entrance into the league. 07-coffee3

If the UConn Administrators had not pulled a Rutgers with their BB and FB hires, and had not sued the OLD BE schools that left they would be in the ACC right now with BC instead of Louisville. The ACC would be a true Coastal Conference then. That being said Louisville would probably be in the B-12 with BYU or another AAC conference member right now too. 07-coffee3

I think the Patriot League is a good fit for UConn football, although I admit I know little about FCS football.

Good luck to UConn going forward. Great University. I just wished the Huskies budget situation had allowed them to really invest in their football program. The AAC could have worked for UConn had that been the case. The Huskies will need to find a conference home in the long run. You simply cannot recruit without a bowl tie in and conference championship to play for. U can't sell independence and losing to high school recruits, and you can't feast on juco transfer when building a long term successful program. imo.

Even after collecting big payout from the old big east breakup "surely an advantage over most AAC programs" and yet uconn still couldn't muster anything while in the AAC... Truth is some programs aren't meant to have football, unfortunately uconn is one of them.

I am not thrilled about them leaving.

Do you really trust Aresco to find someone better?

The big loss is UConn as an institution, not a football program.

I understand where you coming from but uconn was drowning with pitiful performances both in basketball and twice far worst in football. Them leaving was only a matter of time.

If only the AAC could some how land BYU they will be a ten time better institution over uconn, not even close.
