They should load one of those T-shirt shooters with hotdogs.

Hands down worst game I've ever attended regardless of the score. The PA announcer for the promotion events was probably the worst person they could've gave a Mic to. Victor E throwing unwrapped wieners into the air was probably the best thing that happened all day. Kinda embarrassing seeing UNI's turn out and energy.. maybe 5 people total stood up when NIU starters were announced. If this is how the rest of the season goes I think I just attended one of the last games of my undergrad career.

How did you like the band playing full blast while that professor was getting an award? Hard to hear the PA announcer over the band. Pure class. It was embarrassing.

The one good thing today was that they finally had signs and ushers checking tickets for the reserved seating sections. Finally! And the girl who checked mine was so nice. I had a handful of hot dogs and a beer while going to my seats. She let me go to my seats and waited until I was done eating before she checked my tickets. I complimented her and praised that they were checking tickets. I told her about the issues I had in the past, especially at the women’s games. Thank you to whoever decided to do this. Maybe this year I won’t have to kick morons out of my seats.

RE: Official NIU vs UNI game day thread
I went to the game yesterday and walked away really disappointed, Trying to have the ‘it is only one game” mentality and not panic, but it feels like a repeat of a bad movie. Some thoughts- Lacy seems like a really good kid and a team player, but bad things seem to happen whenever he is around the ball- a missed bunny, traveling, charging, ball slipping out his hands, it goes on & on. I am not a bball expert by any means, but he was determined to rebound with one arm all day and pull it to his side? Seemed like it was never secure enough and ball put be kicked out of his arms. In some defense to him, he had to take on the bigs all by himself with McCarty out. We were severely undersized and need McCarty back big time. I can’t remember how many little tip ins of rebound that UNI had. With being a small lineup and you would think “quicker’ lineup, we probably got about 10% of the 50/50 balls available- they got almost every one and was completely maddening watching from the stands as we were trying to mount a comeback, The crowd, as mentioned, was lame and very unenthusiastic. I was my typical in to it fan, but felt like an island. Unfortunately, I think the crowd is just waiting for bad things to happen and most of the time does not disappoint. Team fought hard and keeps grinding- but I wish we would take control and bring energy early in games. Is it me or does a Monty staple game thru the years- get down early, mount a furious comeback, and then always come up a little short? This seems to be the rhythm of 80% of our games. How about being chased every once in a while? My positive spin hanging on to is that the team will gel and have a different look with Mcarty out there- although Lacy HAS to develop also for us to be a MAC contender.

Yes, we’ve seen the same movie year after year and it gets tiring and boring. The fans are not into it because they too are tired of seeing the same movie. Nothing will change until Monty is gone, so sit back and relax for a couple years or so (or we hear about the next extension). However, things WILL change next year when German is gone. We’ll be able to count the wins on one hand.

Attendance was 1,003. For the opening game on a beautiful Saturday. How sad.

I am by nature extremely positive when it comes to my sport teams, especially when it comes to NIU. NIU hoops has just sapped me. I want so bad to field a competitive team. Even to begin the game yesterday, I was pumped (despite the rest of the crowd) to start what I hoped would be a different year. By halftime I was so depressed and afraid of the rest of the year. Even now, being Mr Positive, I am rationalizing that when McCarty comes back we will be a force. I guess I will hang onto this hope until proven otherwise.
I will have at least one child at NIU from 2015 thru 2023- all have grown up being huge Huskie fans. Is it too much to ask to be able to have one NIU hoops team they can enjoy while at NIU? so f'ing frustrated the more I think about it

UNI was about 150 of that total. Student turnout was in double digits. But everyone is tired of seeing a lousy team led by a lousy coach year after year. I heard fans talking “looks like last year and the year before and the year before that”. STF seems incapable of firing him. Best part of the game was seeing flying wienies!

Anthony needs to be the timeout contest mc. The other people are not good.

I cannot believe the coaching staff after three years cannot get Lacy to rebound with two hands and get the ball above his head before he goes up for a shot. Every post up move he makes he keeps the ball at his waist and goes up for the shot instead of getting the ball above his head and then going up for the shot. If he did that he would be on the line a whole lot because they would foul him.

I love how the contest MC came out and said, “How ya doin’ tonight, Huskie fans?!” Number one, it was not night. Number two, did he REALLY want the fans to tell him how they’re doing after watching the drubbing on the court?

I will continue going to the games if only to enjoy watching the new group of cheerleaders and Silverettes. Mama Mia! That’s all I will say. They are all quite talented, and there are more this year. Well worth the price of admission!

Anyone notice the 9-0 NIU run when Eugene got taken out a few minutes into the 2nd half. I think he played the entire first half. Also, what's the deal with Darius Beane? Is he not in the rotation for minutes. I've read about his high school accolades. Could be another scorer down the line.

NIU looked decent in the second half, I'll be happy if thats the team we see the rest of the season.
So sick of being a directional school, its a marketing debacle. The announcers said "UNI Huskies", and later joked that UNI also plays Northern Colorado in a few games. Harder to create a brand when you generically sound like 7 other schools. Expected push back is the only thing keeping me from launching my 3rd annual name change thread

McCarty, Beane and Daow were all out yesterday due to injuries. Heard that on the radio after the game. All three of those guys will help this year.

Justin Lee is still not playing either. With McCarty out, you are missing a 6’7” and 6’8” player. They would certainly help the rotation.

McCarty would help but if Noah McCarty is your second best player your team probably isn’t good! Monty had 5 scholarships and he did not recruit one scoring guard. I cannot believe he and his coaches didn’t know that they were short on scorers. It is not hard to find a couple 6 foot tall and 6 foot one scorers from the juco ranks.

Monty does whatever he feels like since he knows he’s protected with all these contract extensions. And even if by some miracle he doesn’t get another extension and leaves in 2021, he’ll be happy anyway since he really doesn’t want to be here. Nice man, but what a disaster he’s been.

I have been a big supporter of Monty over the years. He knows basketball inside and out but he is not a leader of people. He is extremely insecure and immature. Monty is the guy that can and will only do things his way. He will not surround himself with good established coaches because of these personal flaws he has. The writing was on the wall years ago when he couldn’t get along with coach Todd Thompson. Thompson had many great Illinois connections and I believe Monty saw him as a threat to his job.
