It would be great to increase the lighting, whether by adding more to the existing poles we have or installing a couple more.

The lights, while obviously an improvement over what we had, are the bare minimum. When you watch other college games, there are not the same shadows cast by the players. These stadiums have 3-4x the number of lights on the field.

The other point, of the stadium and crowd itself, is that there is essentially no lighting angled/pointed to illuminate these areas at all. I am at a loss for why they did not brighten up the stands on the new addition. It looks quite odd on TV.

You point how dark Zable looks on TV and I have asked former players about the lighting and they all have commented on how bad it is. One event went to point out one end zone is almost completely dark. The first practice under the lights in '04 I rode by Zable and saw the lights on so, I stuck my nose in to see what it looked like. There was a gentleman from Musco Lighting and for whatever reason he came over and introduced himself like I was a person of importance boy, I had him fooled. We got chatting and I mentioned that it looked dark and he confirmed that it was not the best for television.

Believe it or not the east side stands do have lights shining on the crowd . Both of the light towers had lights installed and they shine down on the crowd. On the scoreboard there are lights illuminating the south end zone seats and the north bleachers aisles are lit.

My crew was talking about this too. We've got a history of underperforming in night games, and the lack of lighting could be related to that. There's basically no field lighting from either end zone.

I record Tribe games and cannot see much or any difference in the lighting of the tv picture than most other games. Some of the stands may be somewhat dark but the field itself is bright and beautiful.

You want darkness watch some of the major games played in huge stadia. I watched the Stanford-UCLA game
after returning from Zable and you could barely see the endzone while the crowd was in darkness.

The lighting on the field is fine. It may surprise some that it is the same for both us and our opponent. As are elements like rain, wind, and sun. Using lighting to explain performance is just silly.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation
The other consideration is that CSN cameramen did not sufficiently open their lenses as the game transitioned from daylight to night.

It was fairly dark, no question, even my wife (not a big FB fan) noticed it was dark. Having spent time behind cameras, my first thought was that the lense openings were too small. (I'm betting, especially from the quality of the announcing team, that this was not their TOP broadcast team).

(Also, nice to know that the Tribeathletics.com cameramen do such a nice job, on a regular basis, for us.)

Zable Stadium Renovation
I'm watching NC A&T against Hampton right now on ESPNU, and although the players have four shadows indicative of limited light fixtures, the field looks so much brighter than Zable on TV. Maybe it's something as simple as having stronger light bulbs!

Try again.

The lighting posts were from six months ago.

Yesterday's posts were only about the beer.

Since everybody else in Virginia has no halftime re-entry, and that was a reason given for the change in Zable's policy, I presume we will follow other Virginia schools and allow beer, as well.

Yea, right.

Yea, right.
Our "security" is off the charts since the no re-entry rule was implemented. Zero instances of people bringing bombs into the stadium.

There may not have been any bombs sighted during the Elon game but I recall seeing scuds as well as a lot of dummy ammunition.

And re-entry...
Oh yeah, the lighting is not very good judging by the comments from players after they have graduated

Updated Google Maps images of the renovated Zable complete with Turf logo etc.

Side note: new images also show demolition of the main lecture hall of Millington and absent lodges :(

Graduation moving back to Zable to allow more attendees. 9am to avoid the heat.

This leaves the door wide open for a more intimate and improved Kaplan.

Uh, since when is the capacity of Kaplan only 10K? Since when is the capacity of Zable 16K (in respect to the fact that W&M always announces a sellout at about 12-13K)?

Capacity of Zable with the field available for seating is much higher than when a football game is going on
