Has anyone ever figured out what happened that day, or was it that PJ preferred the NFL offer?

I would assume it had to do with the NFL calling and that he and Doeren did not get along too well. Fleck was essentially the OC in name only and was there probably for recruiting purposes. The offense was basically ran completely by Doeren.

Campbell is still raiding Toledo's cupboard. TE/ST coach and DL coach will also follow to Iowa State. Still offering more of Toledo's recruits too.

Toledo's coaching staff will be a complete rebuild minus DC Candle who is the new HC.

Good. It will make next year's "Big Year" be easier for us. :)

I really feel sorry for Carey if he already accepted the ECU job, and if he didn't who would even take that job now?

It is but somewhat puzzling. Mendenhall has no ties to East or ACC. Maybe he felt played out at BYU. Hard to believe he got significantly more money.

Going to be tough. McNeill is an alum, had a good record, taken Pirates to three bowls and won a division Co-championship. Three seasons before this one they were 26-13.

More than that he is an African-American coach and a large percentage of ECU's roster are Black kids.

I live in NC and have a masters from ECU to go with my WMU undergrad degree. I also have a former athlete of mine who is currently in the team. After hearing what he had to say and watching the reaction here, all I can say is WOW. Outside of the AD I have not heard or seen one report or one tweet supporting this move. Not only was Coach Ruff a solid coach, he was a great leader of men. Exactly the type of person I'd want my child to play for. Hopefully he lands on his feet soon. The only rumors we've heard from local outlets is Carey, the MTSU coach, and Riley (former OC at ECU, current OC at Oklahoma). Needless to say, the next coach will need to do a lot of healing within the program and community.

McNeill is well-regarded in the coaching community. If he wants to stay in coaching I would think he'll have opportunities.

He is 57 though, may not want to move. Live off the buy-out into retirement.

Riley would make sense at ECU but has been linked to bigger jobs, may wait for something P5.
