Lamar was set to 2-3 years ago to the WAC. Idaho and spear blocked Lamar fearing an eastern majority.

My $ is that it will be a school that has not been mentioned in this thread.

Just a feeling.

There is no logic in the forum. There are only 4 schools in the position to say yes by June 1st.
MSU EKU, Belmont, coastal, SFA, SHSU, UTC,NDS, Del. is not one of those 4 schools

JMU
Liberty
Jax st
Lamar

SBC will choose 1 of these school.
take your pick.
Crap that doesnt want us.
Fried Crap on Stick
School not trying to be crap.
Texas deep fried crap with salsa

Pass
Those are the 4 choices.

I know some people involved with the decision who don't believe those are the choices, with the possible exception of Liberty.

nope, just those 4. But you are right about other schools still in the picture beyond this year which is why I believe the sbc will go 14. Missouri st is one of the schools in the mix. Also my pick as the 14th.

This is what I think will end up happening as well. With no one really having the votes because better options will be ready in a year, we sit.

Very possible. Lots of moving parts and things could change very easily. I think the next big shift in schools is when CUSA TV contract is reworked.

RE: Sun Belt Conference votes to expand
Honestly, I'd put Jacksonville State as the least likely of all, because of the Alabama teams seemingly ardent against adding another Alabama school.

Next in the least likely is Lamar.

Then Liberty/EKU. Liberty because of baggage, EKU due to not being ready.

Missouri State/JMU are just a "hey, can we join?" away from an invite. NMSU all sports, I think depends on if JMU declares first.

To all the 12th team lovers, will you travel to a championship game? Will you even care if it doesn't involve your team? Know anyone who will? What difference will it make to the conference? Will you enjoy watching it on ESPN3? Will it help our conference image or power rankings? Is it of any real vaule? How many will then start a 13th thread when the 12th is added? I can only hope that we have decision makers that are better thinkers than Karl and kill this notion now.

The concerns that our championship wouldn't get picked up for TV are very unfounded.

The concerns about travel also are pointless because it will be played at home sites...meaning its just up to the home team to travel.

I would watch it on TV or ESPN3. I would go if it was a home game.

Jax St does nothing for the SBC. Maybe if South Alabama finds a home in CUSA someday they'll be worth taking a look at.

Missouri State as I've said before has the most upside of any school the SBC could possibly bring in and they should be the number 1 target.

If the current add is not Mo. St. the add has to come from the east. No way can I see the eastern teams vote on any school west for fear of the conference becoming too western, and have a western influence to the conference becoming dominate. I believe the choice will be easy because JMU will decide to come.

Waiting on the MAC to do what? The MAC does not have to expand. JMU could be waiting for years. They can watch Old Dominion move up and schedule future home games with NC State and Virginia Tech. They can continue to play home games against Maine and Rhode Island at the FCS level. Or they can join the SBC this spring.

Liberty has the baggage of Jerry Falwell, Sr. They also have a ton of money. That money can clean up the baggage. That money can be used to change and improve their image, which they will need to do to bring in more money. The baggage excuse is a short term issue, it is not a long term issue.

exactly the reason the WAC didnt add Lamar 3 years ago.

For Lamar, ULL could go east. Lafayette to Mobile is closer than other pairs.

So, they have the money now. They have the baggage issue now. But they aren't changing and improve their image.

So when exactly do you think they are going to start trying to get rid of that baggage? Or more to the point, don't you think in spite of being the obviously most ready team last year and personal favorite of Benson, yet still get denied entrance... That they would have started to work on that image by now?

If those are the four choices then Benson better get James Madison. I could live with Jax State because it's a short road trip. But no thanks to the other two.
