I would rather have 3 western schools. BYU, Fresno State and one of Air Force, Colorado State or UNLV. Fresno State fits perfect... They are already rivals of both SDSU & Boise State and their Olympic Sports would be accepted yesterday in the Big West Conference (as would UNLV). BYU is an easy addition with their Olympics staying in the WCC. Air Force and Colorado State could probably work something out with the WAC for their Olympic sports. I don't think it is out of the question for an all-sports Western Division forming in the not so distant future. Nothing would shock me with realignment anymore... Too unpredictable with many moving parts. This would balance out East and West divisions as k5james suggests...

West
SDSU/CSU Fresno
BSU/BYU
SMU/Houston

East
Memphis/Temple
Louisville/Cincy
UCF/USF

Followed by a 14 setup like this...

West
SDSU/CSU Fresno
BSU/BYU/AFA
SMU/Houston

East
Temple/Navy
Louisville/Cincy/Memphis
UCF/USF

Oly sports are meant to be regional. There will never be a western all sports division imo. Best we can hope for is getting them together in an existing conference.

Can't start our own western division conference either - adds that are all sports already want to play the eastern schools. Not to mention the hardships that come along with creating a new conference, even if it is to house a western divisions non FB sports together.

So I seriously doubt a western division becomes all sports.

So a huge, gigantic, ginormous and emphatic "NO!" to UNLV.
(sorry, can't say it enough on this board!)

You would rather pay the Big Lots conf 1.5 million a year for the pleasure of their company?

This won't be a popular post on here but you asked a question and I'll give you an honest answer. For me, "happy with the Big East" ended last year when WVU, TCU, Pitt, and Cuse left. The Big East just lost Rutgers and is about to lose another member (most likely UConn). That means every team we originally signed up to play in the Big East will be gone (other than UC and USF).

I understand that the Big East has to have teams and we took the best teams available (competitively and financially). But outside of Boise St, none of the new additions really excited me or made me happy either (I also wasn't one of the emo crybabies about it either). It isn't because I hated those teams or thought UofL was head and shoulders better than them. It is because I knew that regardless of the on-the-field results, the Big East would get slammed nationally as becoming an even weaker football league and that that negative publicity would damage our abilities to stay in the BCS/land bigger bowls. As a side note, I don't expect SMU, Navy, SDSU, etc are falling over themselves to be in a conference with Louisville either since none of them much history together and because UofL isn't a big enough of a name brand to get fan excited.

Right now, "numb" is pretty much how I feel about the Big East. This isn't the league UofL signed up to play in but maybe in time I'll learn to love it. As for what the league should do, it is simple:

- Add whoever makes the most sense financially
- Expand to make money, not just for expansion's sake (i.e. no to 16 teams)
- Add teams to make the western teams happy.
- Move Memphis and Temple back east if possible.

What we are talking about here in the west is the possible formation
of a west side of the BE. Those rumors of talking to BYU, SDSU and
BSU about a west div. is being poo pooed but where there is smoke
a firestorm could follow. BSU and SDSU are NOT returning to the MWC.
If Louisville and Cin leave, things will happen and happen very fast.
Like the UL poster said, this isn't what we signed up for, same thing
happened when we joined the MWC, NEVER Again.

I think a western division and ECU are aligned as both are facilitated with a move to 16. With 16 the west can add 4 of Fresno, UNLV, New Mexico, BYU and AF. Combined with SDSU/Boise they can merge with the WCC to form a very strong western all sports conference.

ECU joins the east and they form a 16 team eastern all sports conference.

West ***

Houston
SMU
Colorado State/Tulsa
BYU
Boise
Fresno
SDSU
Navy

That's my favorite western division, but I know it's not realistic. To answer the OP, the answer is yes ... two western adds and one eastern add is ok as long as it makes $$$ sense.
