The Superconferences' Worst Nightmare
What can kill the Big 10 Network? What stops ESPN from reassigning schools at their will? What ends the move to a "premier league" of teams essentially run by two networks?
This.

The BTN only works because cable and satellite providers are coerced by Fox into carrying it for every subscriber, most of who wouldn't know the BTN from NatGeo. If customers could opt-in to choose BTN, very few would, of course, and the revenue model comes crashing down.

it seems to me that is the wave of the future. Look at companies like netflix and the "on demand" features available on cable now. Only a matter of time before people will be watching what they want when they want.

It's undoubtedly where video entertainment is heading, but the cable companies are doing everything in their power to hobble more convenient, affordable, and user-friendly on-demand/live streaming services. Netflix and ESPN3, for example, have both taken huge step backwards this year as a result of cable company resistance. So the question becomes when the dam will finally break. Hopefully it's soon.

I don't see that as a problem, i see it as a benefit. I'll gladly give up every channel that's not news, finance and sports related.
No more HSN, Lifetime, SciFi, etc.

no ****. In Europe, HBO has basically become an a la carte station in many ways.
