True, but there are certainly distinct levels below the P2. Right now, the ACC and B12 are much higher than anybody other than the P2.

Look at the new CFP distribution.

FedEx announces landmark NIL commitment worth millions
Guess this is why Fred dropped the cash

There is some buzz here at the @CFBPlayoff spring meetings about the idea of a Group of 5 postseason tournament. It was discussed years ago but never gained traction. Retiring AAC commish Mike Aresco said he was always concerned it would “separate us from the big guys.”

True, but it will likely still include the Big 12.

Fred has been trying for years, back to 2008 or so, and strongly since the debacle with the Big 12 in 2016, to get Memphis into an A5 conference, so I doubt this was the instigating factor.

But I'm also sure he is aware that big changes could be not far down the road, with the window of opportunity closing at some point in the near future.

You know, the same assumption that SMU boosters made in buying their way into the ACC. At some point, we all know there will be a split, either by division, or by breakaway. That idea has been there for years.

You obviously don’t keep up with realignment

I don't care if 100 teams want their way out. It doesn't matter if nobody else wants them.

Maybe you could buy your way into the ACC like SMU did? But from a results standpoint, you guys probably need to start doing something in the postseason and get some eyeballs on the tube before you start throwing conference logos out there. And besides, half the teams are looking to get out of the ACC so...

My original point still stands. The alignment circle has likely died down for a while unless you guys have your hearts set on a west coast conference involving basketball powers Washington State and Oregon State.

You clearly care too much. Grab some Bojangles or Taco Bell/whatever your favorite comfort food is and chill.

lol that’s all you could respond with? Truth hurts I guess.

I prefer licking a fatass tub of Chipotle guac and licking it clean out of the container with my bare hands.

Chipotle guac is legit; dive into a bowl of that and worry about your basketball team getting back on track.

WSU doesn’t have football and Kansas as a whole isn’t known for good college football. Really the only power team for such a small state should be KSU.

I responded that way because I’m far past giving a sh1t about this subject. Apart from lame trolling you wouldn’t care either.

Ah so only Memphis fans can comment on the subject? If that’s what you’re looking for, head on over to your own board. This is a communal board with communal opinion. Deal with it.

Expansion and alignment fun is likely done for a while.

Hilarious comment considering half the ACC is eyeing a way out lol

I get that PoV, but most Memphis fans just want out, and a west coast "best of" might be interesting if nothing else happens (assuming they can make the numbers work), but of course, the goal is to get into whatever is left of the ACC after the shuffling, which is inevitable, just a matter of timing. Could be a long time, or maybe not.

But no Memphis fan is happy where we are, b/c the majority of teams we have been in conferences with over the years are now in the P-whatever.

Will it ever happen, who knows? But with the $220M stadium reno, the $550M Forum reno, the NIL funding, etc. it's not like our admin isn't trying. They are very open that the goal is a better conference, and they certainly aren't doing this thinking it will be 2036 before anything happens.

Fair points. And I’m not saying you’re not trying or faulting you for trying. Clearly the city of Memphis is investing in collegiate athletics. That’s not the issue. All I’m saying is who is gonna want you at the moment? I think it’s silly a guy just dropped an ACC logo after they just completed an expansion that involved Stanford almost getting passed on. I mean if Stanford barely made it in, do you think they’re licking their chops to add Memphis. I feel some fans forget the academic profile and side of things. Some conferences still look to that side of things and Memphis honestly doesn’t compare very well to schools from that conference or some others.

And while a lot of money has been poured into the big revenue programs, results are lagging behind. Why do you think Houston,UCF, and Cincy all were able to join the 12? They all had MAJOR recent success in the two revenue generating sports. Memphis has potential but hasn’t realized it in the last decade. I don’t think any fan could honestly argue against that. And it is a factor, of many, that make one desirable for expansion.

Memphis has had their best decade ever in football. Certainly far from not realizing potential. Basketball has not been what we hoped lately but nobody is taking teams for basketball except the big east.

Nope. There are plenty of dumb opinions over there too. I don’t even have a problem with trolling, but at least be semi-educated about it.

In reality, I don’t disagree with his point. More so the way he presented it. He’s right in that it’s dumb for Memphis fans to post anything insinuating a move to another conference before it’s set in stone.

Even at that, I wouldn’t talk ish to anyone here about it if it did somehow miraculously occur. Everybody wants to move up; we’re all in the same boat.

Hopefully, a concerted effort throughout the City is underway. Regular fans with modest means like me can also do their part.

No it isn't. The Big 12 and ACC are still about $30M+ better than this league.
