FedEx's chairman appears to have a personal connection with Memphis .. even if they move headquarters .. I wouldn't be surprised for them to maintain the same level of support. That support could change if he retires or moves on.

If Fed left it would be a death blow to the city I think. And the city understands this too....it's the reason the airport gives in to any Fed demands.

Talking corporate headquarters .. not operations. Yes, unlikely that operations will ever move. But they can very easily move their corporate headquarters (think office people) elsewhere if there was a reason (normally its a legal/tax benefit that causes those things)

It seems like I read that when FedEx was starting up, they wanted to be in Little Rock but were kind of stonewalled.

Thank goodness Little Rock screwed the pooch.

I read FedEx’s NIL initiative is part of a larger strategy to elevate Memphis to the P5.

Anyone can relocate their company for all kinds of reasons. Why would you compare Boeing to FedEx? What do they have in common with each other besides airplanes?

clt says this with peace and love, but they may struggle getting younger folks to move to memphis to work.

There are significant synergies for airlines (including cargo carriers) to be HQd at their largest (or near largest) base of operations.

Heavy damage has been done over the last few years. Started with the Marshall thing. Many donors didn't want him fired. Then a very short term president (Golden) went out of his way to stop Ivanka Trump from presenting at a WSUTech Graduation (a loosely affiliated tech school in Wichita). When your primary donor base in the midwest is Republican, then you probably shouldn't do something like that. Golden was fired shortly after that. Since then, combined with overall poor performance, COVID etc ... its been a perfect storm of damaging donor relations including with Koch.
