It makes no sense for them to leave. Unless they change their business model. Memphis like Chicago are midways between east and west.

Both these cities, because of their geographic locations, make them great choices as federal transportation hubs.

Anyone can relocate their company for all kinds of reasons. Why would you compare Boeing to FedEx? What do they have in common with each other besides airplanes?

The FedEx School of Business, one of the best in the south was on the other side of the street from my dorm. I don't think Freddy will have any trouble finding qualified white collar businessmen to join his organization. My stepfather a Memphian was a CPA controller (Memphis grad) at Federal Express.

Ford does not have its HQ here, but they're investing $6B in the region to build their largest and most technologically advanced production facility, and have already started partnership with the university.

To give an idea as to how large this facility will be... there are 3 other car manufacturing plants in TN:
1. GM - Spring Hill
2. Nissan - Smyrna
3. Volkswagen - Chattanooga

Ford's Blue Oval City, when completed, will be larger than the other 3 combined.

Autozone, International Paper are in Memphis as well. But yeah, it would be awful if FedEx left.

I would expend that once the Ford compound is up and running with over 5,000 new employees, it will have a huge financial presence in west Tennessee as well. And we can’t forget about Bill Laurie either.

Trust me, I expect this decision to start a wildfire. If for no other reason than as a show of corporate strength.

One big difference though is FedEx and Nike are home grown. How invested is Toyota to the Greenville community? We'll see.

We do live in a DEI/ESG world now so this could get real interesting.
