Yax, I don’t know about. He seems really comfortable at UAB, and he knows exactly what he’s getting out of the team and AK. He also seems to genuinely like UAB and is really active on social media in support of the team and players. He could leave for sure, he’s definitely good enough. UAB offers the chance to be the man, be guaranteed 35-40 minutes a game, and play in a system he is already familiar with. He’s not guaranteed anything other than money if he decides to transfer.
I agree
1 year of guaranteed money vs. a year of guaranteed being made "the man" on your team, playing a much tougher schedule, with better exposure on espn a lot. A lot of knowns at UAB vs. going for 1 year of money and maybe being the third or 4th wheel.
AK has shown time and time again through his career he will let his best players shoot the ball until their fingers fall off. Yax's usage could be through the roof next year.
Also, Yax is very good, but he has a lot to work on. I don't think he's quite ready to make the jump to the NBA yet, but 100% has that potential. I would hate for him to go to a "big name" school and get lost in the shuffle.
Think about if he were able to develop a consistent jump shot and three point shot. He could be a first round draft pick. He's already a good set shooter, but Right now he has to be WIDE open for him to even think about shooting a jump shot. It takes him several seconds to get into his shooting motion and get a shot off. If he could develop a quicker, more confident jump shot, maybe off of one or two dribbles, wow... If he did that, and developed some kind of go to post move(s), instead of just barreling in for a layup attempt and getting the offensive rebound, the sky is the limit for him.
He's so good naturally, but still so raw also. He could be SO good with a full offseason in the system and then playing 35+ minutes a game for an entire season.
Maybe I'm making it too simplistic, but I'd view it as one year of money vs a potential 15 year NBA career worth of earnings..
