That is the real account of Cassidy Wood, the sports reporter from our local CBS affiliate WOWK. She won the WV Media Association Sports Reporter of the Year award last year.

Thanks for the verification. Just wow.

RE: Hey uhhh...Marshall
I know from when I was at Southern Miss some of the players read the message boards. The one's that didn't usually heard about stuff from there. Everyone can say they shouldn't, but they do. There's a lot of blame going around, for the Marshall debacle itself. But, I do wish fans would be a little more careful about what they post. Players see fans making nasty posts about them, it will make them more likely to leave. There's a lot more than just criticism of their play on various boards that goes deep into making it very personal about them as a person and not as a player. Some mods at the various boards do better than others deleting it.

I just don't see how Huff survives even through the bowl game. No Ali, no Fancher the bowl game is going to be FUGLY.

I'm sure there's some over-the-top stuff on the message boards, but it seems some people want players to be paid like professionals but get the kid glove treatment that amateurs usually get.

This is such bad publicity. I doubt Huff will receive an extension no matter what he does next year, barring some kind of miracle perfect season. This is assuming he isn't ***-canned before they go to Frisco.

Unprofessional and uncalled for. Everyone had gripes about Doc's way of coaching, but none of the coaches before Huff would have ever said such a thing.

Now would be the time to de-huff the situation so it doesn't extend to two more seasons of constant movement in the coaches

One of the questions I have are Marshall people having a problem with this because what coach Huff said was wrong. Or because it's true, but he shouldn't have said it?

I'd say 80% that he shouldn't have said it and 20% that he was "lying". However I wanted him gone before yesterday.

Shouldn't have said it either way. It was clearly spite... directed towards fans, boosters, and Cam himself. People sometimes say things and regret it... I can forgive everyone involved, but even then, it belies a much more serious issue behind the scenes.

Coach shouldn't have said that i mean we get that he is huffing and puffing but not in the public like that esp when you are going to get bad PR for the school as an employee of that institution not to mention the heart burn you are gonna cause to the kin.

At a basic level, college sports exist to advance the university's mission of developing and mentoring young people. So many coaches seem to forget that and just flat out set a bad example. Tip for anyone in a leadership position, exuding bitterness will kill your team's morale and their respect for you.

RE: Hey uhhh...Marshall
Huff is about Huff. His plan to take a job with a team that was fairly loaded (he said himself at the initial presser that he was getting a championship caliber roster), win quickly without worrying about the long term, and get the heck out of town on the P5 train fell apart due to his overestimation of his talents.

He has never liked Huntington and his wife hates it. He has blamed everything but his performance. My guess is when Cam decided to leave Huff just kind of snapped and blamed the boosters and fans because it couldn’t be him. He has realized he goes into the last year of his contract with no out. No QB, no Ali, starting linemen transferring, and a bench with no young talent because he went straight portal to try and win quick.

Next year will be fun with trips to Ohio State and VT. We’re looking at 2-10, 3-9 type season if we keep Huff and probably still if we don’t.

Let's hope Huff and Marshall can come to a mutual parting of the ways either before or after the bowl game. If he coaches the bowl game it will reflect badly on him as Marshall will almost certainly get blown out. Marshall needs to look for FCS head coach that has had success building a winner from scratch not a Marshall Alum, not a P5 coordinator. I don't think he would make the move but Rich Rod would be good he's done wonders and Jacksonville.

I don't think Rodriguez leaves Jacksonville State for another G5 school. I would imagine that JSU currently pays him a similar figure to what Marshall currently pays Huff. If he goes to another program, it's probably for a much higher salary.

Sounds a lot like a guy named Everett Withers who coached JMU. Thought he was better than job, his wife hated H'burg, etc. Luckily our future conference mate took him off our hands and the rest is history.

I want them to interview Willie Simmons. Checks every box and he and his wife just happen to be best friends with Ralph Street and his wife, so Ralph might be able to help. Simmons is the current HC at FAMU.

RE: Hey uhhh...Marshall
Sister goes to message boards and sees all the negativity.

Mom claims son doesn't know of the negativity and has never been on the boards.

Thus, coach is a liar because son doesn't know he is hated? Or something?

Odds are the sister and brother spoke, the mother knew of the fan groups comments as well and discussed with son. Son is injured, wasn't playing well which hurts enough, and then the fans still pile on. Hell, they piled on him here and the comments there were pretty damn bad. I wouldn't blame him for transferring because of much of what was said.

This is also why you should take your hate mail board to a paywall. Some families will pay for it and comment (Troy Everett), but I wouldn't bet it happens often.

I don't see how anything Huff said is that bad. He said the fans hated him. If you go to HerdFans, it's hard to draw any other conclusion. Before any of you say it can't be that bad, go to their board and peruse some threads.
