Up to #8 in the coaches poll
https://jmusports.com/news/2023/9/5/mens...-poll.aspx
Seems a little high? Beat something called "Radford" and go up 9 spots. Duke ties and drops from 3 to 10.
Movement all over the poll, seems like coaches throwing darts.
Go Dukes
https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings...aa-di-men/
The jump is a bit weird/extreme. We beat the #30 team at home and two other non-ranked teams. I think we are getting reversed screwed on this one.

What happens when you only have 8 voters for a poll. One voter can throw the entire ranking off.

I posted about this last week on the SB board thread.
I was excited for the ranking until I realized their are only 8 voters in the poll.
Nice to get the recognition, but hard to take it too seriously with that few voters. And that explains the wild swings each week as well.

"James Madison? Didn't Jim Larranaga take them to the final four a couple years ago?"

RE: 2023 Men’s soccer
i watched some of the game last night, very very chippy and we played garbage ball as a result. We were really trying to sell some of the hits with flops. Not a fun game to watch, we were better than that game.

GW is undefeated with a win over South Carolina. Likely a strong program this year.

RE: 2023 Men’s soccer
I lost count after 17 cards. Incredibly chippy. There were a few cards handed out that had me scratching my head, but a lot of them seemed pretty called for. The second guy on GW that was ejected definitely deserved it. Our player absolutely flopped but the GW player did make some contact with his face. I didn't see the first red card but they said that player also got both cards within a minute of one another.
The game got out of control at the end.
Disappointed it was a draw, but it wasn't a loss at least.

Poor clearance on the 2nd GWU goal. Our 2nd goal was due to a goalkeeper error.
Their first red (2 yellows on the same guy back to back) was deserved. No reason for their player to make the challenge to earn his 2nd yellow.
Their 2nd red with 31 seconds left was boneheaded. GWU player was already on a yellow and kicked the ball away/at the Dukes defender after a foul. The ref was right there, pulled his yellow (2nd for that player) followed by a red, yet at the same time the players started to push and shove. The GWU player on the 2nd yellow = red shoved a Dukes defender in the face, leading the overmatched ref to show him the red card again.
2nd half was ugly. Can't say GWU had a style of play besides being physical and packing it in, but I didn't catch the first 35min.
IMO College soccer is just a mediocre watch.

RE: 2023 Men’s soccer
I watched the first half of the game and thought the ref came out using his whistle too much early on, but I was wrong on my initial assessment. He clearly knew what he was in for today and tried to keep control of the game, but obviously it failed. GW should be a team on the rise with their new HC. He's a good recruiter and a good X's and O's guy. If they can keep their heads about them, they should be dangerous from a standings perspective, instead of from a personal safety one.

As I watched this game with great frustration, I recognized GW did exactly what they needed to do. They turned it into a brawl on the pitch. We are clearly the better team in both skills and attack concepts and execution (generally), but they turned it into an ugly, uber physical match. It reminded me of our game against UVA last season that got out of hand. Honestly, that night the Hoos were the superior team, but we brought them down a level and made it a game for a while- even though we lost 4-2 or something like that (not looking it up). Anyway, the lesson may be one of keeping composure and going back to fundamentals instead of letting the lesser team bring you down. That said, I want our keeper on my team. That dude was about to whip some @$$ in that last minute when our player got pushed/slapped/popped in the face.

The only flaw in GWs plan were the ejections. Luckily for them we weren't able to capitalize on that. That's the frustrating part.
Totally agree with the goalie. He almost took it a bit too far, but absolutely is a guy I'd want on my side as well.

Hopefully we get a big crowd to cheer on the men's team over UVA tonight. Win this and we could be a top 5 team.

JMU Athletics just sent a promo email for tonight with $2 hot dogs. Students get free shirts. Certainly hope it’s a big crowd at Sentara. I will definitely be tuning in on the Plus.
#9 Dukes against #4 Hoos. I believe this would be our biggest home win since that win over #1 Wake a few years ago. Just crush them this week.
Dukes currently ranked 9th, 11th, and 24th in the major polls.
