I’d take UNT . . . most of our fan base would probably list UTSA as Enemy #1. But I doubt that you could pry either out of the AAC.

My preference between UTSA over UNT because of our existing rivalry across all sports. UNT fans loved to take shots at us on this board and GMG before we moved up. Lamenting the lack of Texas rivals in the SBC, but not wanting to be associated with us.

I will happily gatekeep for you. We didn't move up only to fall back in with the same schools. Doesn't really matter though, the damage is already done.

Why does UNT dislike Texas State?

Id say they probably look at us like we look at SHSU. So I get it to an extent.

I don’t get the UNT distain for TXST. IMHO, both schools have much more in common than not. Both started out as Teachers’ Colleges. I don’t have enrollment numbers in front of me, but I’d guess we’re both of similar size.
Both have pretty nice facilities. Both have a great downtown square, good music scenes. I am shocked that a school of UNT’s size still has no baseball program; but other than that, I think that a pretty good rivalry could develop between the two given the chance.

The thinking is that North Texas is up here and Texas State is down there and they would like it to stay that way.

I know they're geographically in the East but in the AAC they preferred and played in the West division.

I wouldn’t want that. It reeks of “new guys gets to make their own rules”. No thank you. You’re either on board (nautical pun) or you’re out to sea.

Navy is not necessary.

This SBC is built on “together we rise”. If we start making special considerations for new members we open ourselves up to all the same BS and problems their old conferences had.

They have a limited number of fans here so it may not be fair to extrapolate but they might very well have the most exaggerated sense of importance of their program as any fan base not named Notre Dame.

They were also apparently convinced the Sun Belt was holding them back and they'd be an awakened sleeping giant in CUSA.

Navy fits better in the AAC West with Tulane, SMU, and Tulsa. The SBC has no one Navy’s institutional profile similarly matches.

…which is one of a number of reasons why we shouldn’t even be having this conversation.
