From the tape I've seen, Drogosh sure looks like the future. But with 2 very seasoned and somewhat successful QB's in front of him this year, I wonder if he would consider redshirting a year.

Having seen him play a ton over the last couple of years, I would be VERY surprised if he didn't redshirt this season. He needs some seasoning in the passing game simply because DLS doesn't pass much and he has never really had to go through complex reads. He has the arm talent, but he will have a transition to the college game...people thinking he could come in here and challenge for the starting job aretalking out their asses at this point.
Only way he doesn't redshirt is if we lose all three other QBs outside of Jones to the portal after spring ball.

I can't speak to watching him play so I'll defer to you. That said, CSS has gushed about Drogosh's tape and mentioned Prater's time with Cincinnati is up to him and his family. Not a ringing endorsement for Evan. With our meh OLine right now Ben Bryant would seem to be a sitting duck back there and/or not a fit for CSS's system. I don't believe all of the current QB's on the roster will be here next season. If our transition to the B12 goes south early on I'm all on board for giving Drogosh the rock and let the future start happening sooner rather than later. Let the kid get real game experience if Jones falters or gets injured. If he's truly not ready or needs to develop his game further then redshirt makes sense.

FWIW, the kid is a monster size-wise and athletic-wise...
Quote:Drogosh, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound four-star prospect from De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Michigan, was named 2022 Michigan Mr. Football after leading De La Salle to its second straight Division 2 state championship. Drogosh threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 152 yards and three scores in the title game.
Drogosh and De La Salle outscored their opponents 175-29 in their playoff run.

He was also clocked at a 4.6 forty yard dash. That's fast for a guy at that height. Josh Allen who is also 6'5, and is a hellava runner, ran a 4.7. If UC can pack 15 more pounds of muscle on him, he could be a bear to bring down.

Better number for me is his shuttle...the time he clocked at the Elite 11 would've been the 7th best time among all athletes at the NFL combine this past year. The kid is extremely athletic and has a great arm...he just has had next to no experience having to read defenses with college and pro passing concepts. DLS runs a "we have better dudes than you" passing game (fades, slants, and bubbles and letting their receivers run by ill-equipped defenders), but he is accurate throwing to those routes and has solid delivery mechanics.
Rest assured, I think he will be a monster in Satt's offense if it's anything like what he ran at App State with Taylor Lamb...just think it'll take time for him to figure out college coverage reads and progressions.

Start Jones or Prater. Whoever it is better be able to run as they will be running for their life next year with the OL we have left.

Do you ever come across HS prospects that have no experience reading complex defenses at the HS level but somehow end up figuring it out in college anyways? Seems like Des did a really good job transitioning from a gimmick HS offense but it definitely took a lot of work and a lot of time.

Oh, there are plenty...just not in 6 months. Him getting into the room in January will help, but I'd be shocked if he's ready come August.

Des red-shirted and if you remember in 2018 we handed the ball off to Mike Warren 30 times a game.

His 2nd year starting for us was his worst year as a Bearcat by a pretty substantial amount. He was still solid but no where near his rs freshmen, rs junior, and obviously rs senior year.
Would assume most of that had to do with teams getting tape on him and how our offense was orchestrated under him before he gained more experience, improved, and made some adjustments.

I think he was battling injuries the second half of the season and couldn't make the throws he needed to make.

Ah that too. Forgot that was the year some fans here got on the BB bandwagon and he got a shot in the conference champ game in which Des was not benched but injured.

Yeah, weirdly the USF game was the turning point in both of his middle seasons. I think that was the game he was hurt in during his sophomore year and in his junior year that was basically the "Come to Jesus" moment for him here from what he has said after the fact.
