Detroit shot but 42 percent on two's. I believe this first time this season, that EMU kept an opponent from making less than half their two's. But REMU mad to do a better job keeping opponents off the offensive glass.

EMU scored 10 more points at the foul-line than Detroit did. But Lovejoy continues to foul excessively as well as Rice in his limited playing time.

EMU needs to shoot more three's if EMU is to win MAC games, as EMU shot 47 percent on three's, bilirubin took just 17 three-pointers.

Heath still needs to have his team do a better job defending the opponent's three-ball.

EMU would also be in a better position to win if Bates would only not excessively turn the ball over and foul.

Acuff was impressive with 6-assists and garnering 3-steals.

In 29 minutes. Noah committed no shooting fouls and committed no turnovers. Hope he keeps that up.

I noted no turnovers from Noah as well- very happpy to see that.

I also noted (or at least it appeared as such), Noah drove all the way to the basket on a few more drives than he has been doing- was going to suggest he is over relying on the mid range game this season until today. So hopefully more follow through to the basket is something he will continue doing.

In addition, he is shooting a very low number of 3s- despite being decent with a 37.8% rate. Is there a reason for taking a low number of threes?

I also felt Noah’s defense was really good today. Kept his man in front of him very well. Including when he was on Davis. Didn’t necessarily translate to steals, but it is solid defense.

After playing South Carolina away, EMU could not have a better start in MAC play by starting off in January, 2223, by playing at home Bowling Green and Central Michigan, and then at Western Michigan.

Yes, Jihad had a great game. Regardless of the 17 points on 6of13 shooting and making both of his threes. I am not going to expect output like that from him regularly. But decent (not great) in the post defensively with some active hands and 0 fouls. Hoping he can continue improving defensively- lord knows we need it.

Should be noted that Detroit Mercy is rated higher than 5 of the teams EMU was beaten by. Hope that Jihad continues to play well as he gives EMU a new and improved look.

EMU will be starting conference play with a new line-up. They needed a shot in the arm and I'm confident Jihad may be it. Bates still needs to get the bad out of his game. If he does, it will be easier for EMU to win games.

Miggy, one more question on Noah. I noticed he was shaking his right hand when play was dead. I assumed trying to keep it loose. Is he hurt? Or is that just some fidgety habit of his?

Best defense I have seen all year. 12 steals in this game compared to 6.5 spg average, and 4 blocks compared to 1.8 bpg average. All of the blocks came in the first half, but UofD missed a couple bunnies in the second possibly due to adjusting their shots after the first half blocks.

@KenBarna, remember my post after last weeks game, this is what I was talking about. You can tell they have been working on defense. Hopefully they can keep this up. EDIT: to be clear, EMU needs to keep IMPROVING defensively. Today’s level is not enough to win the MAC.

I have not seen this kind of energy and hustle from this team all year. Our specialty of allowing un-contested layups to the basket by guards was gone! 50/50 balls were just that, there were three tie-ups that heretofore would have been picked up by the opponent uncontested. There was a lag after halftime, unfortunately, but this was a fabulous improvement.

UDM is FAR superior to our prior two opponents. Davis is the BEST NCAA player in Michigan. Lidell is a beast. That said, they and most of their other starters are grad students playing their final season against our young team. This was a BIG win.

I did not see this coming. Apparently, Stan is not as feckless as I thought he was.

Davis is great but Dickinson is an unstoppable college basketball player, as much as I hate to say that.

Today’s game was incredibly encouraging.
I got to stay after and watched Emoni put up shots for almost an hour with his father rebounding for him. It was great to see the father/son bond and the dedication.
I want to echo the praise for Yusuf Jihad! He was the difference maker.
Both of his career highs have come against Detroit Mercy. Hopefully we get to see him continue to produce like that against other teams. It’s hard to believe he started college and playing DI basketball at 16.
That lob that Noah caught for the dunk today!!!! *insert mind blown emoji*
Both Tim Hardaway and Troy Weaver were in attendance today. It was kinda cool to see them sitting in the stands with the fans.

Yeah Davis vs. Bates was as good as it was billed. Steve was right imagine Lidell on our team this season. Yes our rebounding and second efforts were much improved since the last time I saw them at home. Overall we shot the 3 ball better blocked more shots and had more steals than we have been averaging.

RE: Game Week December 18 U of Detroit
It's time to end EMU having one of the the worse defenses in the country. As there's no reason for any opponent to score more than 70-points in a games. It starts with players rarely committing fouls.

With EMU protecting the rim better, it's time for Heath to have his team make a concerted effort to stop opponents three-ball by playing an extended half-court pressure defense further out.

EMU would have beaten Detroit Mercy handily if Heath would have not let Detroit score anywhere near the 36-points they did on 12 made three's. He also should have had his players protect their 10-point half-time lead by not letting Detroit make 6 three's in the second-half.

EMU is a good three-point shooting team, and they should have taken twice as many three's in the game than they did.
