Game Week December 18 U of Detroit - emu79 - 12-11-2022 08:31 AM

After two roads games EMU returns home to play U of D on Sunday December 18 before taking a break until December 30. This will be EMU's last chance to see Antonie Davis play. U of D is currently 5-6 and beat fellow MAC team Ohio U. The U of D roster is loaded with grad transfers. The starting lineup looks like this:

Antonie Davis 6'1 Gr 24.5 pts per game
Damezi Anderson 6'7 Gr 9.5 pts per game
Gerald Liddell 6'8 Sr. 18.5 pts per game
Jayden Stone 6'4 Jr. 12.2 pts per game
AJ Oliver 6'7 Gr. 5.1 pts per game

It looks like Jordan Phillips 6'7 Sr. and Isaiah Jones 6'8 Fr. are the first players off the bench.

I’ve had the honor of announcing at both schools.
I’m looking forward to the game.
But of course….
Go EMU!

BobW had some pretty wise words in the Basketball Disaster thread. We are indeed fortunate to be in the MAC where a horrendous start can easily be erased- if ever things do turnaround and they may not at this point. There are only two more games in the next couple weeks before MAC play, so hopefully this gives the team some reprieve from their frustration if not a little extra coaching time. (though not sure how much coaching time given finals /holidays).

Anyway, hoping the team can pick up the win at home this Sunday- I am not optimistic but hopefully a better performance then Luckey and Nickle are projecting above.

Figured I’d bump this thread. Thanks for getting it started and for the info, ‘79.

U of D is a very experienced D1 team.

Antoine Davis is one of those players that I feel like has been around forever. Not sure about that forward Lidell you got listed but you are saying he is a senior. His 18.5 ppg scare me as much as Davis given our defensive issues in the frontcourt.

I didn't list the weights but I think Lidell for example is 230.

Oh, he must be their center. I saw 6’8 and assumed forward. But he is the tallest one listed and at 230 to boot. Wondering/hoping Geeter will have an easier time with him as there will be minimal height advantage.

I don’t estimate or project wins and losses by a gut feeling, I look at matchups and coaching. I have seen zero growth from this team so if a team keeps doing the same strategy, they’ll typically get the same results.

I’ll be rooting for us to win but seriously if we lose 4 of next 5, I will share my season tickets with another unfortunate soul :-)

And he is having a huge season. Been eating opponent's lunches. Presumably one of the best rebounders in the nation.

He would have been the missing piece on OUR team.

I hope you didn't apply the same logic to the 2022 Lions.

They were as cold as a January night in Detroit. Campbell's seat is hot.

But, of course, "Not so fast, my friend" says Lee Corso.

Here is the Lions' season to date.

Once again in sports, politics, stock market, etc. etc. Yogi nailed it:

“IT’S TOUGH TO MAKE PREDICTIONS, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE FUTURE”
– Yogi Berra

For those deep thinkers here: Are the 2022/23 EMU MBB like the 2021 or 2022 Lions?

Not letting any fans in until 2:30

RE: Game Week December 18 U of Detroit - vannzee - 12-18-2022 02:24 PM

They were clueless today. Told fans that the doors don’t open until 2:30 and then that the game was moved to 3:45 but sure enough the doors opened at two.

That is what makes you the “Super” fan. I don’t think anyone else comes to watch warm ups. I am missing this game altogether- got the flu and don’t want to spread it unnecessarily. (My wife said, that is how she knows I am really sick that I am missing an EMU basketball game).

Anyway, I have a good feeling this game is where the season starts to turn around. Sad to be missing it. But hope you get to enjoy a win for your efforts… (and hope no one dunks the ball as well. jk)

I guess The GREAT Vanzee watches warmups too?!?!
When is the game start? Is it really moved to 3:45?

RE: Game Week December 18 U of Detroit - emu steve - 12-18-2022 02:40 PM

This because of yesterday's convocation???

Guys, don't be clueless. If you've been to any of the EMU games (I've been to a few) and a few of the U of D games (same) then you know there will very likely be attendees on both sides that will be vocal and I'll leave it at that. I'm not an EMU basketball fan and having been to a few games and sitting with the groups that come, it's an easy pass. Don't pretend like you don't know why they are searching bags.

RE: Game Week December 18 U of Detroit - emu steve - 12-18-2022 03:08 PM

Wasn't there graduation yesterday? Do they need to put down the court again?
