Listening to Tom Helmer call basketball is painful. He says the player's name way too much example: "Geeter will get it to Acuff, Acuff dribbles right. Passes to Farrakhan, Farrakhan drives..." He is like Tommy Two-times with the names. Instead he should say "Acuff dribbles right, HE passes over to Farrakhan (breathe) Noah drives...or something like that. He sounds manic. If you played a drinking game where you took a drink every time he says the player's name twice, you'd be hammered within 5 minutes.

Very good points all around! The defense has been much better! Bates needs to stay on the court!

Last second 3 from Davis misses, and EMU holds on to win it 79-77. It has been a horrible non-conference start for EMU, but it is always great to beat a local mid shoe in UofD.

Best defense I have seen all year. 12 steals in this game compared to 6.5 spg average, and 4 blocks compared to 1.8 bpg average. All of the blocks came in the first half, but UofD missed a couple bunnies in the second possibly due to adjusting their shots after the first half blocks.

@KenBarna, remember my post after last weeks game, this is what I was talking about. You can tell they have been working on defense. Hopefully they can keep this up. EDIT: to be clear, EMU needs to keep IMPROVING defensively. Today’s level is not enough to win the MAC.

Guys, just stay away from the casinos and their sports betting.

Easy to lose money on EMU. Bet against them vs. UofM, Oakland, UDM, etc. and then bet on them for many other games.

That will produce more L's than betting Ws.

Nice EMU win. Good scoring by Bates, Jihad, and Acuff. Getting production from Jihad today was huge as was his stretching the floor and hitting both three's.

Detroit shot but 42 percent on two's. Suspect both Jihad and Billingsley helped defensively inside. I believe this was first time this season that EMU kept an opponent from making less than half their two's. But EMU inside defenders have to do a better job keeping opponents off the offensive glass asSetroit had 16-offensive rebounds.

EMU scored 10 more points at the foul-line than Detroit did. But Lovejoy continues to foul excessively as well as Rice in his limited playing time.

EMU needs to shoot more three's if EMU is to win MAC games, as EMU shot 47 percent on three's, bilirubin took just 17 three-pointers.

Heath still needs to have his team do a better job defending the opponent's three-ball.

EMU would also be in a better position to win if Bates would only not excessively turn the ball over and foul.

Acuff was impressive with 6-assists and garnering 3-steals.

In 29 minutes. Noah committed no shooting fouls and committed no turnovers. Hope he keeps that up.

Jihad has been a great surprise. Best overall game from Bates so far this year. And a win.
