This what drives me nuts! Many on this board plead for a coach to be canned and then, when it happens, they start worrying about the ramifications of the firing. It’s a roll of the dice. Good things could happen but bad things will happen in the short term as well. He’s either the right coach or he’s not. Down the line, we’ll find out if this a good move or not. Right now it’s a giant “TBD”.

Yup. It'll be a radically new-look team next year, kinda like 2013 (but hopefully not that bad of a record obviously).

EDIT- WMU2013, is Crooms actually gone, or are you speculating? I did see Selig is officially gone.

If it takes a 2013 to have a 2016…I’m okay with it. The 2013 team was hard to watch, b/c they were doing things the right way…

I think it was the road BSU game in 2014 that was the actual turning point for that team... and it made all of 2013 worth it... and it was just a rocket ship at that point.

I am hoping that all of the verbals have the forethought to wait out the hiring process... sounds like Dan wants to land someone at HC pretty quickly. Then it will take time for that individual to put together his staff...

G5 coaches are definitely circling this WMU class...

Keep in mind…I hear what you’re saying but just cause they’re in the portal doesn’t mean they’re officially gone. Likely that’s the case but I think those players are protecting themselves pending how they feel about the new hire. I believe the upcoming portal window is open 12/5/22 and closes 1/18/23 (45 days). I think only certain guys can enter prior to 12/5…maybe kids that have or will be graduating. Not sure though.

You’re correct, they can enter the portal now and it doesn’t even open for business until the 5th. They could always come back if the new coaching staff allows it. That’s normally only reserved for Graduate Transfers.

Darnell and Cubit had really good Year 1’s, and Fleck in his Year 2.

It’s atypical, sure. So it’s hard to explain how new staffs have done pretty well, relatively fast at WMU.
