There have been conflicting reports about Dezonie's situation. A vague, unspecified "potential" health issue was reported. Others have suggested that he might need a waiver, since he initially announced a transfer to St. Joseph's before changing his mind and announcing that he would transfer to Temple.

So the injury is severe enough to keep him from playing (and suiting up for game #1), but apparently not severe enough to be a season-ending injury. He was reported to be with the team, but not in uniform, and there were no reports of him wearing a boot, on crutches, or wearing anything as obvious as a cast or sling.
Dezonie probably would have played if he'd been available. Tough break for the team, which only has 10 scholarship players available at this point.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Overall, an important weekend for the AAC with some Q1/Q2 OOC games.

not kidding cincy likely has a bottom 50 national post defense.. cleveland st (who lost to a d2 team) is scoring at will... they only made 1 3 the entire night...
might as well switch to zone at this point

UC wins 69-58. Cleveland St played well but UC certainly has issues just like last year.

interesting is the UC finally used davenport as a 3 late in the game when they were separating, and put Hensley who is UC's toughest big at the 4

Probably won't see it a lot when Newman is healthy again, but yeah, it was interesting to see how it played out for a spell in the 2nd half.
Hopefully Davenport's role slowly shrinks as the season goes on. When he's not making shots he's abysmal.

RE: Weekend (Thursday - Sunday) AAC basketball games
UC looked rough tonight. Way too often the offense looked like last year. Hopefully we can chalk it up to a more true opening night rustiness. If this is a pattern it’s worrying after all the improvements from last year.
Defense looked really bad at times, kept giving up open shots form close in or layups. Really struggled to contain which again is worrying. If we can use this and improve, easy to write it off as early season rust. If it continues, I’ll be concerned because Maui will not be kind in the least. Good news is it feels like 0-3 in Maui isn’t likely given how bad Louisville looks.

Cincy vs. Louisville is a rivalry game that could go either way.

And yet he lead the team in +/- last night.

What?
UC isn’t great but they didn’t lose unlike temple did, crushed Chaminade unlike Louisville and didn’t lose a buy game like louisiville.
UC would beat Louisville by double digits
