RE: Top 25?
App St had 77 votes last week, and was effectively #28.
For reference, Miami was #25 with 123 votes.

I think it might be the case that all the undefeated teams (except Coastal and JMU) were at least receiving votes last week.

Wait. Coaches poll is already out? Didn’t they all coach games yesterday? No chance any of them actually voted in this poll. They haven’t had any time, and more importantly, any inclination to pay attention to the country.

They really aught to just change this to the SID poll, cause that who is probably really voting.

The administration at JMU should be working aggressively, with the Sun Belt leadership, to make sure JMU gets invited to a worthy bowl game. This should be our expectation, archaic guidelines should not stand in the way of what is right.

Problem is, that leadership is composed of other SBC schools, who will likely care more about their own bowl placement than giving a SBC bowl slot to JMU.

I do agree however that JMU needs to start exploring what can be done to get a bowl/postseason waiver for this year.

That is last weeks. The records are updated but the poll isn’t.

They still have Oklahoma at #5
My bad, I saw “Updated Sep 25, 2022” at the top. Thought there was a chance it was still last weeks ranking but it shows we moved up 21 spots, and I really didn’t think we moved up 21 spots in a bye week.

And in the grand scheme of things they’d rather send a 9th place SEC team to a bowl. Look at what happened in the Covid season, good G5 teams with good records stayed home while horrible P5 teams with horrible records went bowling, just because they do what they wanted that year and ignore the rules.

SEC teams with losing records (combined 19-40) yet received bowl invitations:

Arkansas Razorbacks (3–7) to the Texas Bowl
Kentucky Wildcats (4–6) to the Gator Bowl
Mississippi State Bulldogs (3–7) to the Armed Forces Bowl
Ole Miss Rebels (4–5) to the Outback Bowl
South Carolina Gamecocks (2–8) to the Gasparilla Bowl
Tennessee Volunteers (3–7) to the Liberty Bowl

I don't expect us to go undefeated, but it's an interesting hypothetical.

Louisville is the next big test. I really like the way we match up with them. Malik Cunningham is the team. He can't hit the side of a barn from six feet away, but he can run like the wind, and rush D is our specialty. If we bottle him up, forcing him to pass, very good things will ensue.

JMU Louie
Points Per Game 46.3 24.8
Points Allowed 14.0 20.8
Total Yards 462.0 449.5
Yards Passing 239.3 225.0
Yards Rushing 222.7 224.5
Yards Allowed 209.7 350.3
Pass Yards Allowed 181.7 187.0
Rush Yards Allowed 28.0 163.3

Of course, we can lose to any team, but I believe Coastal is the next toughest team left on our schedule, followed by Marshall. Both games are at Bridgeforth.

If we beat Louisville, Katie bar the door, the Dukes are coming!

Go, Dawgs!

Louisville is the biggest test remaining, but I'd say the next big test is stAte. First SBC West road game, and the home team is currently 3-0 in cross division matchups. Marshall is another big test after that... We could lose any of our remaining games, but those are the next significant tests that stand out to me.

Camellia bowl is one operated by ESPN, and believe they control who is selected.

JMU should seriously investigate/pursue if there is any avenue for us to get a postseason bowl waiver for this year.

GS petitioned for one their first year, assuming we don't collapse and fail to win three more games I'm sure we'll pursue it. I think we have to hope for a lack of other six win teams for any chance of it being approved though.

Jmu got 4 votes in AP. Tulane the only other G5 with any votes. They got 11 votes in Coaches. Coastal the only other G5 with any votes. Three games after joining FBS and we already have votes. Amazing! Go Dukes!

Coastal hasn't received any votes yet, though perhaps that will change.
Keep winning, and we do have a real shot at top 25 this year.

RE: Top 25?
You cannot wipe the smile off of my face for the past 2 days. The glory days are arriving a few years earlier than expected in the FBS transition.

Beat Texas State as a heavy favorite this week and watch a few more top 25 teams lose as the Dukes inch up.

then find a way to win a road game at Arkansas State and watch a few more top 25 teams lose.

There is a legitimate and probable chance for JMU to be plastered all over the top 25 national media 2 weeks from now.

don't slip on the banana peel on the way to the FBS podium 02-13-banana
