I saw that rumor, but think the espn app is messed up.
NDSU is a regional school , over 50% of students are Minnesota & pulls from Minneapolis 3.5 hours away
NDSU IS 45 Miles from about 1000 amazing Lakes in Minnesota
Back to the game, NDSU and it's stubborn OC will run run and run the ball some more.
Hi Lakebison!
Just took a look at your academic portfolio and it is more in line with Tennessee Technological University in our state. The ETSU academic portfolio is much more similar to the University of North Dakota.
ETSU is much more health sciences/medicine focused and not much in the engineering realm. ETSU also has a lot more doctoral programs than does NDSU. I saw some really interesting programs on your website!!

Well now BucDoc you don't want to be getting Lakes all twisted up in that messy academic stuff. That's just window dressing that provides the athletic programs a reason to be you see.
Yeah we get that UND is "the flagship" and we are just the "cow college" down south on I29. You know North Dakota is a mostly agricultural economy and as they say up in Grand Forks "if you want to run the farm then go to NDSU. But if you want to own the farm go to UND." (Of course they leave out that it will also be necessary for your immediate ancestors to own the farm presently, but never mind that for now.)
Sensitive? Who's sensitive? Why would we be sensitive? After all the Governor of the state of ND is a graduate of OUR institution, not theirs.
One other notable difference between the two schools though is that unlike NDSU our sister institution does not play football in December.
See how I brought that back around for ya there Lakes? Is that a wingman or what?

Well, we get some decent exposure here, but ETSU has traditionally been more of a hoops school. (As well as tennis, baseball, and X-country; but not at all ignoring football.) I don't know how to say this kindly, so please don't take offense..........but I think our interests are more diverse here. And I'm speaking just for myself. There are attractions and features of this area aplenty, other than ETSU sports. Now if ETSU had won some large number of national titles in I-AA football, would it be different? Some, sure, but I don't think it would be as pronounced as it is up there. To put a finer point on it.......................around here, we're only 100 miles from Knoxville, and so much of the eastern 2/3 of this state is "eat up with" all things Big Orange. It's really an obsession with some, and I think some of us see that as distasteful. Who cares how many days 'til kickoff in March? Who cares what the QB's girlfriend's dog's name is? That last one may be an exaggeration, but only slight. Certainly NDSU isn't the same, but, as I posted earlier, it seems a bit like "Da Bearz" in its over-the-top-ness.
We admire your success........but (again, speaking only for myself).........I just don't think I'd *want* to be that much wrapped up in anything sports-related. And I'm a pretty big sports fan - and have attended ETSU sports events for well over 50 years. Bleed blue and gold, as they say (and I suspect you all can substitute green and gold up there).
So I listened a bit to the link - 2 segments, and they were an extended interview over the phone from one of your former coaches (I think) from LA. And then an phone interview with an ESPN(?) broadcaster talking about the Dome there. Just more granularity there than I care for. Again, no disrespect intended. Whatsoever.
GFBison,
I might add that the biggest religion in Tennessee is UT football. We are also only 120 miles from Virginia Tech so our nearby Virginia neighbors are hard to sell on ETSU football.
Hmmm, yes I see that and its true that NDSU does benefit from a relative paucity of nearby G5, P5 programs or professional to dilute the fanbase.
Of course that is also a curse as it relates to moving up to FBS.

RE: Official Game Thread: North Dakota State
When the season started, I believe it was the consensus of ETSU fans that the pieces were in place, and this team would go as far as the quarterback play would take it. That analysis has proven accurate. Quarterback Tyler Riddell has met and exceeded expectations, and the Bucs are SoCon champs and still alive in the playoffs.
The Bucs will need another great game from Riddell, but I think the real onus for success will be on the defense for this game. Will they be able to maintain, for four quarters, the physical effort required to slow down the NDSU offense?
It will certainly help if the ETSU running attack has some success and can keep the clock running. If the Buccaneer offense has a series of three and outs, there would likely be a snowball effect on the "D". Can't let that happen.
"So what? Now what?" The perfect mantra for a team that adapts, overcomes, and never gives up. I expect the Bucs to be loose and play well.

As you know - NCAA college football was once “University Division” and “College Division”, which changed in 1973, before TV and money took over. Point being, academic portfolios actually meant more in that set up. Universities offered the doctoral, medical, law, pharmacy, etc. degrees while the regional state colleges mostly did not. It was a big deal to be designated a university, and the old guard fought this. It was much harder to “move up” in athletics as well. Schools had to pay their dues for years before being really accepted or seen as legit (see East Carolina, for example). Fast forward - almost all state regional colleges are now universities as most private four year colleges have name changed to university as well. Bottom line, ETSU has a more traditional university division academic portfolio than a number of its peer regional institutions who have moved up to FBS (DI-A) ball. Under the old set up, ETSU would be FBS (University Division). But, under today’s college athletics set up — academic portfolios mean little or nothing — only MONEY AND TV deals count now.

ETSU is a REGIONAL UNIVERSITY no matter what cwur.org says. The University of Tennessee is OBVIOUSLY the land grant (national) university for the state of Tennessee. I suppose the University of North Dakota would be for the state of North Dakota. As for NDSU, it certainly would also be classified under national universities as well since it is obviously not a regional university.

Additionally, the Tennessee Higher Education Committee and the Tennessee Legislature labels ETSU as an access university. That impacts things quite a bit.

Don't choke on your tea. Who the hell makes these rankings? James Madison at 310? App State similar. No way on either. Really, the bottom end reveals a bias against Southern schools.
I came from ETSU, and thus it's a higher institution than 324.

Speaking of Harrisonburg.
If anyone's interested in seeing the high level of FCS and hopefully our next opponent, check out JMU/MONTANA Friday night. Game is at JMU.

It seems high to me. We switched QBs to one who's a lot less explosive, and whose talent is in efficiency. Two of our three best receiving players are injured. And your team has demonstrated that they do not let games get away from them.
If I were a gambler, I'd be hammering ETSU at +23.

Ha - sorry the radio segments were not interesting for you. Going to be hit and miss for sure. There will be segments where they break down ETSU and/or speak to the HC, etc. But it sure won't be for every palate.
While no offense is taken if I may let me caution you about being mindful of your assumptions. I'm sure you have plentiful distractions there in Appalachia as I do here 15 minutes from a very large metro not named Fargo. I would bet that the good folks up the road from you in Harrisonburg also enjoy many varied interests as well yet they sport a fanbase just as rabid as that of NDSU. Might be extended success that does that. Just a guess.
Also, while I do not live near Fargo now I did live there at one time and visit there annually and I can assure you that they have a multitude of varied interests there as well. Out in the wide expanse of the great plains a 100 mile drive is something one might do for lunch. One way.
Anyway, best of luck to the Bucs in this contest. I think our fanbase is excited to see a new opponent travel to the Fargodome and bring their best. Let's hope we have an exciting game and injuries are minimal or nil.
Cheers.
Can confirm. I regularly take a 70 mile drive just cause I'm in the mood for KFC.
One way.
