Is that based on some intel or is it pure speculation?

Many ways to determine interest, but ONE is if the player had previously been recruited by us. Wade is from Ga. and we recruited him previously.
There are other ways such as Twitter follows, etc.
Once again, "more now than ever" coaches and players who have developed a recruiting relationship sometimes come back to them.
If I were in coaching/recruiting, I'd try to recruit ALL of the recruits in S.E. MI ranked say 16 - 30 with the thought that once I get my foot in the door some of these recruits will probably transfer out of their original signing school.
Get 10 of them on campus for a camp or tour of the campus with a parent and say, "don't forget us, even if you don't pick us now..." Maybe one or two will later be in the portal. C.C. is big on relationships. He is really a peoples person.

RE: 2022 Transfer Portal Thread
I consider this article O/T (off topic) to EMU, but still shows what is happening.
Taking a page out of DP's playbook, here are 3 kids who basically decided very early in their MSU career that they would not be getting the PT they want at state.
Will they go MAC? GLIAC? Who knows, but they do have the chance to align their skills to the competition level.
It takes a good coaching staff to understand each transferee and try to ascertain if there was a good reason for lack of PT. Would a DE at UofM get many minutes playing behind Hutchinson? Probably not.
It would be nice to see these type of transfers go to FCS. FCS is real good FB. Has a playoff. Lot of games are streamed. Basically like saying not all students are ivy league caliber. Find the right school for you.

Hutchinson, Talbert and Jent Joseph all in the portal.
Not a loss with Caleb Talbert, Jent. We are deep at W.R. and they didn't Crack the rotation.
Losing Hutch sucks, but I'm high on Baron May and maybe CC told him the writing on the wall. Gold luck to Hutch, seemed like a good dude.

I just hope it is where Bryant and Hutch talked and one said, "I'm leaving" and the other said, "thanks for the heads up, I'm staying." That is they made their decisions with knowledge of the other.

I think most of EMU athletes are high caliber character individuals or we wouldnt recruit them.

Went to Fordson HS.
Had some good 2019 stats, but took a step back in 2021.
Just mentioned in another post, but very good get for EMU. He is smart and talented and will provide depth in an extremely talented WR room. Should one of our returners bail, he will step right in. Good job coaches

Looks like a typical EMU WR, 5' 10" and 180.
They can catch the ball but can they block?

RE: 2022 Transfer Portal Thread
Once again, I ask this GENERAL question: How are all of these players who are transferring going to get scholarships for 2nd semester at their next school?
Unless the NCAA has made changes to the rules, the scholarship is for one academic year. A scholarship given to Hutchinson can not be given to another recruit next month. It can be given in Feb. to a 2022/23 recruit
So where are these hundreds and hundreds of transfers going to get their scholarships for next semester? Is a player going to pony up say 25K to transfer from Ohio to Marshall? Why?
Are schools sitting on unused (not issued) 2021/2 athletic scholarships?

For the vast majority of these guys they likely won't find a scholarship, thus they just threw away an all expense paid education.

Sadly, you are correct.
I've said for a long time that the NCAA will correct this with new rules in about 2 years when all the data comes out on how many guys left and never were picked up or transferred and their credits didnt. If you think football is bad, look on verbalcommits.com and tally up all the Division 1 basketball players. It's astounding. Where will all the "Power to the players!!!" advocates be when they see how many guys screwed themselves out of a degree.
I'm not totally opposed to the Portal, I just think it needs to be way more regulated (i.e. limiting amount of transfers for an individual)

It’s really easy to fix.
1) First transfer is free.
2) Second transfer requires a year to sit out, regardless of circumstances. No waivers allowed of any kind. No intraconference transfer allowed (for second one only).
Voila.
