Most Western fans are just like ODU, S. Miss, Marshall...always someone else fault. I'm just going to do a copy and paste from a Western board on my thoughts.

Since just about all the older fans and I will use the ages 45 up in that group are basketball first fans and seem to love the MAC....

look up the rpi or net or any other set of numbers you want to use for the last 5 years. Do it for the MAC and the schools below

Bet CUSA 4.0 is head and shoulders better at basketball. Three years from now once Middle gets back on track and Jacksonville St and SHSU gets 3 FBS recruiting classes under their belt. The football side has a very good chance at passing the SBC and AAC and especially the MAC. The SBC just bloated their bottom by adding 3 bottom feeder football schools. The AAC just added 4 to their bottom

If anyone believe a school in the MAC moves the needle in football or basketball. You are mistaken. The same goes for the SBC and the new AAC. There's not one name, once Memphis is gone in either of those conference that in basketball...

Not any at all for football... A win over JSU, SHSU,Mo St, is just as good as a win over ODU, S.Miss, JMU, FAU, UTSA, UNT, Rice, UAB. No one is moving the needle

As for money as a conference CUSA 3.0 paid out more than the MAC. Also more on donations and tickets sold. The MAC schools are getting 675k a year from espn while CUSA is getting around 400k

There's around 33 to 40 million on the table to split between the 5 CUSA schools left. And it will cost Western or Middle 5 to 7 million to leave that money and pay the MAC

at 275k a year that the MAC makes over CUSA a school is looking at 20 years to make up what they are leaving or have to pay. For what? The fat, ugly, girl, just because she wont leave us like the others have.

. BTW if Western and Middle went to the MAC both wou;ld be in the west division....

with all the Michigan school and N. Ill and Ball St would move to the east

That looks fine for football. It doesn't matter in basketball and baseball though, right? Basketball just went to divisions last year for Covid, I believe. I don't see any issues if we keep the number of teams in CUSA low, no more than 10 or 12 for football. We could pull some good basketball and baseball schools though. Looking at you DBU for baseball.

If we can get Missouri State... this is a solid conference for basketball and football.

The MAC is a perfectly fine but there are things that I don't like about it.

Nope. That'll never happen. We have some fans who are gonna be pissed off but that's true with any fanbase. All WKU wanted was to do was get off this f'ing conference carousel. The MAC was our only viable option to get to a stable conference in the general geographic area. Since it appears the MAC is not on the dance card for us, we have no other options out there.

The disgruntled fans will come around eventually. WKU will help cement the new CUSA and, although not a geographically compact conference and likely not stable long-term, it could be a solid conference if it stays small. I really hope we stay at 9 schools but no more than 10. Basketball is gonna be solid in this conference with WKU, LaTech, MUTS, NMSU, UTEP, and Liberty. Football will be weak in the short term but it's not like we've been in a strong football conference since we joined FBS a decade ago anyway.

I wavered between staying here or going to the MAC. The appeal of the MAC was that it was stable and we could develop some new rivalries with like-minded schools. But in the end, I'm OK either way. It's gonna be a struggle in the short-term but the good thing is CUSA has new life and can move forward.
