As far as us not liking CUSA or seeing the grass is greener on the other side, that's probably not entirely accurate. None of us, as you just pointed out, like uncertainty. The MAC was appealing to many of our fans because it is stable, not because it was perceived as a totally superior conference. The same would be the case if the MWC was seriously looking at UTEP or LaTech or if the AAC was seriously looking at FIU.

WKU fans really respect UTEP and LaTech. There's no doubt about that. We have all been put in an uncomfortable position with all the defections.

You need to run for Mayor, you seem to always say the right things. To tell you the truth we lived in Owensboro going on 24 years and I couldnt tell you who the mayor is. I think its been 6 years since I last read the Owensboro paper and dont watch the news.

Being serious when I say you would be good as Mayor or on a board with 5 votes and you the deciding one. I personally believe you would never have to cast the deciding vote....

you would get at least one to change theirs

Trying to determine whether that's a compliment or a put down. Lol. My field of work requires me to be a communicator and team builder which means I have to remain neutral and see all sides of an issue and then sway others to one side or the other to ensure goals are reached. Sometimes that means I may be wishing washy but that doesnt mean I dont have strong opinions. I guess that overflows to my postings here. I dont get too emotional or too wrapped up in what I cant control. You take what you have and make the best of it.

As far as Mayor, you couldnt pay me enough to be a politician. That requires too much moral compromise for my liking.

compliment to how level headed your post are.

I've been my own boss since the age 18 so its hard for me to let things go even when I know I should just pass on saying it. I believe anyone that has worked for me would say, I'm 100% direct and 100% fair in the way I treat them. They might not say that at the time but after the fact they would.

I've got a little better since I retired 11 years ago. Now I get a post typed and say...screw it. But only 2 out of about 10. I've also got better at saying what I got to say and then letting the other person have the last word.

So what happens when the exit fees are exhausted? Does ESPN re-up the MAC offer in five years and poach WKU and MTSU in the process? I think you just come back to this in 4-5 years should that pair still be available and no slots in the AAC or SBC open up as an alternative.

They could, but if Conference USA produces a fairly successful product, it might be tougher to pull them away. The media rights deal is renegotiated in 2023, and that will certainly say a great deal about where the league is or where it will go.

These two posters don't get it!

Keep your conference small (9-10).

Less mouths to feed. That is how the SBC did it-- they are still at ten and will be for two more years.

CFP money, NCAA units, Media (what little there is) all will be split fewer ways. Only sixteen BB games saves on travel and allows you to schedule more geographically friendly games.

AND... You can always add later... when and who you want. There should be no FOOLISH rush to add any more FCS teams at this point. Take a breath!

From the little communication that we've had, our AD has been adamant about keeping the "new" CUSA small (less mouths to feed)

The issue is you can't keep it at 9 or 10 teams because the conference could be raided again which you could be left behind again. It is not a good idea right now. You need to have the comfort to have 12 just in case.

that's why I said 12, protects CUSA from future poaching

No it doesn’t. All it does is dilute the distribution shares. Our TV deal is going to be hot garbage. This is about one thing. Five teams reap the benefits of the forfeited revenues for two years. It was the only reason to stay. That and higher annual average revenue per team with nine vs 14. If we turn around and add three more FCS schools then we made the wrong choice to turn down the MAC.

CUSA has already gotten stronger in the past week of due diligence with the MAC flirtation.

MT would have had to pay four times to get out. Pay their own exit fee. Forfeit incoming exit fees from the other departures. Pay a MAC entrance fee. Pay a back end fee (GOR) if they left the MAC in next decade and a half.

Once the 2021 exit fee distribution fund is disbursed, MT will reevaluate to see where things stand.

How are the FBS call-ups doing? Is it a 2-bid NCAA league again? What’s the TV situation? Back on ESPN and if so what days/times?

It’s been a good week for CUSA and at least in the short term it’s back on solid footing. Stay tuned though, the work is not done, it’s only starting…

RE: Oh, well
Unknowns regarding CUSA finances moving forward:
1. How exit money will be distributed, how much per remaining programs as opposed to kept by the conference.
2. Tv contract. CUSA is expected to have less than the current 14 fbs members by 2023. Will tv contract be reduced because of a reduction in fbs-fbs games content; will contract be renegotiated a year earlier because of reduced content.
3. Cfp payout. Is the 1mil per program capped at 10 applied only to fbs members or will fcs members in transition counts.

Lots of assumptions being made that nothing will change in payout structure, thus same pie less mouth. But the distribution per fbs members may not be adversely impacted whether CUSA takes just 2 fcs vs 3, 5 or 7 until tv contract are renegotiated. And cfp format decided (and if there is a g5 aq, CUSA may want to hedge their chances by adding 1-3 more fcs champions).

Good questions.

1. That's going to be interesting. How much money has CUSA offered, if any, to the 2 fcs schools to aid in their transition to FBS? That would affect distributions.
2. This may be the one question that really doesn't matter. If the numbers thrown around on the Internet are to be believed, it was peanuts anyway so even if the TV dollars are affected, not that big a deal. Then again, a new contract will be up for consideration by then anyway.
3. It's my understanding that we will have 14 FBS teams in 2021 and 2022. During that time, the two FCS schools will transition to FBS and be full FBS by 2023. So in 2023, there will be 9 full FBS teams. I could be wrong.

RE: Oh, well
It takes two years for fcs to transition to fbs: 2022 and 2023. They won’t be full fbs till 24. I don’t know whether still in transition for 23 will mean with tv contract or cfp payout.

Its only a matter of time before he gets fired or quits.

He’s about to lead us to our first back to back playoff appearances since 1990. He can do whatever he wants while he’s here and he continues to get double checks from both MSU and Louisville. He ain’t getting fired lol

No doubt he has been successful in the past and I am not surprised he is successful at your school. Hes a good coach. Unfortunately hes a walking turd too and controversy follows him everywhere.

Nothing is official yet but it's looking like the MAC is not gonna offer invites.

All I want is an official confirmation ASAP...either WKU is staying in CUSA and committing to the conference in its effort to rebuild or WKU is accepting an invite to the MAC. Just let it end!!!

Nerve racking ain't it?

At least your admin is being proactive and working through stuff.. Our past admin would've sat on their hands and then said, this is where we need to be without so much as lifting a finger.

That's what I keep hearing...but nobody has really ever proven to me how we are "evil" -- bizarre, really.

On the other hand, Billy Joel once said, "Only the GOOD Die Young..." --- so I don't know.04-cheers

MT Board meeting is about a half hour away (1PM CST).

As I think about it the fact that wkcc wants to go and they only get to go if we do is reason enough to decline. 03-lmfao

The current deal is not where it's at IMO.

Now CBS is ending their deal with the SEC, there might be a good slot there, if CUSA could slide into that with their "Game of the Week", that may be a good gig...
