They have a brand new football stadium, a historically good basketball team that plays in a nice arena, fine facilities otherwise, great baseball, and a sizable medical school. Mobile’s not a major national metropolis, but it’s not exactly a cozy college town, either. They’re also just a stone’s heave from Tulane. If Charlotte’s toward the top of the list, it can’t be a “only one-school-per-state” thing.
I’m not necessarily saying USA should be a primary target for Aresco & Co., but I also don’t get why they seem to be so invisible in all this.
To be considered on Aresco's list would surely be an honor, but a lot of the JagNation are quite satisfied being members of a very stable Sun Belt Conference.
I can't imagine South Alabama and Troy wanting to separate now in their history. The rivalry has blossomed and is highly anticipated every year. It sucks enough being in different divisions, much more if it were separate conferences.
I cant imagine the triangle of App to GS to GSU would want to break up either. The AAC being neutered so bad may keep the Belt together.
Maybe UAb has that invite in hand and is saying the will turn it down if USA gets an invite too. UAb may be blackballing USA from the outside.

There's just such a huge difference between schools in large urban centers who have lots of support (San Diego State, Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF) and those who are just in large urban areas without the support (Charlotte, UTSA, FIU, [Redacted]). Markets without the merit mean nothing.
Your argument went out of the window when you mentioned San Diego State, they are currently averaging 9303 per game.
And your credibility went completely out the window by making that statement. How great do you think UTSA's attendance would be if you played your home games in Georgetown or Round Rock? SDSU is playing in Carson, you know the city just south of Compton in the LA metro area. It's a 2 hour one-way drive at best from the SDSU campus to their "home stadium" along I-5. I'd image even some ardent fans aren't making that drive 7 times a year; the drive along I-5 sucks!
There is something wrong with a school if you cant find a subtitle venue to host your football team closer than that. I hope that UTSA never gets to that situation.
My comment was geared more towards the fact that he mentioned that UTSA doesnt get support. UTSA used to get between 25k to 35k on any given Saturday, but thanks to our previous coach, attendance started to dwindle. More than likely, we will hit 25k to 30k this coming Saturday.
So settle down sparky.

When is San Diego State's stadium supposed to be finished? I went over and looked. 35,000 seat stadium should be ready next fall.
The initial articles I read during demo of Qualcomm/SDCCU was 2022, seems like the below article reinforces that. The article also has a link to the construction cam, which is showing pretty decent progress, so I think Fall 2022 is still gonna happen.

Come again? So there is something wrong with San Diego State University because the city of San Diego doesn't just have a 20-30K cap spare stadium lying around for their use? I could think of many college programs in much better health than UTSA that would have to play fairly far from their home stadiums if their current stadium was being completely demolished. Urban infrastructure development and city politics are different everywhere, and those things have no bearing on whether there is something "wrong with a school" in that city.
The fact that SDSU is demo'ing an outdated 50+ year old stadium, which had major renovation hurdles, and building a new 35K cap stadium, with the ability for expansion (to 55K) and all modern amenities, speaks much more to the health of the school and their football program than anything.

As to the last part of your recent comment, are you talking to me? Or the board in general? The Cajuns average 3,500 more per game this year than UTSA, that's with one Saturday game and in a city with a metro 1/5 the size of San Antonio. I seem to recall some old saying about glass houses?

So the mighty Raigin' Cajuns, with their back to back to back winning seasons, are only managing 3500 more fans in the stands than UTSA? So they still dont have the support. I see.

There are exactly three venues in Arkansas with more than 20,000 seats. If AState or Arkansas had to close their stadium for a couple seasons they’d need to travel more than 100 miles or go outside the state.
Hawaii has closed Aloha Stadium and they are having to play on a practice field that had 4100 seats and has temporary bleachers making it 9000 this year, next year it will be 15,000 seats. Their next best option was on a different island and that was the plan until students basically revolted over having to fly to see home games.

You cant compare Jonesboro, Arkansas with San Diego, CA. Same goes with Hawaii.

I see you have trouble reading and comprehending. Pity.
What was so hard to comprehend about one Saturday game? That game was vs an FCS school one week after a major hurricane passed just east of us, 25K. Our lowest attended game? 17K on a Thursday vs a MAC team no one down here has heard of. That's still better than the pathetic 16K you drew for two Saturday games in a comfy domed stadium.
You want to talk about no support? Please tell me more about how in a city of 2.5 million people with very little other fall sports entertainment to speak of, and yet you can't even muster an average attendance of over 20K. You're coming off of a trip to a bowl game last year (remember who won that one?), and you're 6-0, and it's your homecoming vs an in-state conference foe, dear god it would be pretty friggin pathetic if you can't get 25K at that game. But in those circumstances, you should be doing way better.

As to the last part of your recent comment, are you talking to me? Or the board in general? The Cajuns average 3,500 more per game this year than UTSA, that's with one Saturday game and in a city with a metro 1/5 the size of San Antonio. I seem to recall some old saying about glass houses?
I have logical thoughts, but I cant help you understand them.
So the mighty Raigin' Cajuns, with their back to back to back winning seasons, are only managing 3500 more fans in the stands than UTSA? So they still dont have the support. I see.
Excuses are like ********... or something like that. I can use the excuse about our previous coach that ran our program into the ground. Before him, we were averaging close to 30k. So we both can play this game.
And I am just using your buddy's definition of no support regarding the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. Dont get your panties up in a bunch.

Exactly, and that was the point I was trying to convey to you in a previous response. See below.

When San Diego's largest university has been sharing a stadium with the local pro team since the stadium was built in the 60's, why would there be another nearby home for them? The next largest football playing university in the area is USD and they play in a multiuse soccer/football stadium that seats less than 10K. Every school and city's situation is different and it has no bearing on whether there is "something wrong" with that school.

I’m not sure how it’s SDSU’s fault that the only facility in the metro big enough to host FBS football is a stadium owned by a baseball team that won’t permit football until after the World Series.
The Chargers couldn’t get anything done and that’s why SDSU’s stadium is being torn down.

I have no friends on this board, and I don't know what university you are referring to, as no university goes by the name "University of Louisiana - Lafayette".
If you are referring to this initial exchange:

There's just such a huge difference between schools in large urban centers who have lots of support (San Diego State, Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF) and those who are just in large urban areas without the support (Charlotte, UTSA, FIU, [Redacted]). Markets without the merit mean nothing.
Your argument went out of the window when you mentioned San Diego State, they are currently averaging 9303 per game.
Then you didn't even argue with "my buddy" regarding his comments about UTSA. You just refuted his point about SDSU being strongly supported by stating their attendance numbers for their "home games" in another metro that requires a 4 hour round trip. So not only did you not poke holes in his argument, but you didn't even directly refute the comments he made about UTSA. Good job at failing completely at what you came here to do.

I don't believe that for a minute.
I have no idea where any of this is going, but I don't believe UAB is even in a position to blackball anybody.

I don’t believe it either. I’m not sure the AAC has their house in order enough to even have given UAb an informal invite.

Any conference policy that reflects a hard and fast “no two teams from the same state” mentality is doomed to fail.
Look at all the power 5 conferences. They have multiple schools in the same states and it’s a boon for them. It’s literally what rivalries are made of.

As far as the lesser school thing you should remember Arescos' attitude. Everyone of us are lesser schools.
