Variety, even if it does not produce the best champion is better for the sport. People are already tired of Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State.
When you play to please the audience instead of to attain the best sporting result you cease to be a sport and become entertainment. The NFL advertises its games as entertainment and with gambling ties and the house beating the closing line ~85% of the time and controlling spreads with PI and Holding calls that's exactly what it is.

While I agree that there are risks to interest with the present model it is still a sport in spite of the CFP and ESPN's interest in ratings. The kids still want to win. What I fear about NIL is that if they have a path to notoriety and money beside the games the games will suffer even more. I'm keeping an eye open for just that. I quit watching when spoiled players start dogging it (ala the non significant bowls) or worse fixing games.

Seriously JR?
The only two reasons to expand the playoffs is for entertainment and money.
You had better give the fans what they want.

I would be fine with a 6 team playoff if it was take the 6 highest rated conference champions and seed them 1-6. Then everyone truly plays their way in and there is no more picking and choosing of teams. Every league goes to a single standings so they get the best two teams in. There is nothing wrong with a team having two losses or even 3 and playing the best football at the end of the season getting crowned the champion, that happens all the time in the NFL.

Whats even better is let every league go to conference semi-finals and start them the last week of the regular season that you leave as a floating game for everyone. Everyone gets assigned a game even if they miss the playoffs. This wouldn't even require an extra game. The games would mean a lot more if you have 3-4 teams fighting for the 3rd & 4th spot in each league's playoffs. You could try to space as many of these out as possible beginning Thursday or Fri night through Sat. so fans could see as many of the games possible instead of playing them all at the same time. You can continue to have pointless bowl games if you want to.

If we see a break off or leagues get to 16 or 18 I would like to see that number at 6, 20 or higher even 8 would be fine. Then you do away with the bowl games.

I don't tune into any bowl games except teams from my state and I don't care for the playoffs due to them cherry picking the teams they want. But this type of scenario would be must see and I would watch all of those games. Th
