No BCS and No NY6 = No Flagship

No current CUSA has done anything of significance in last 20 years.

Winning Bowls are great but bowl games are not what they used to be back in the 80’s or 90’s

I can’t think anything that would distinguish a current CUSA school on national level (in the last 20 years)

RE: CUSA Flagship
Tech is the only non-BCS or G5 school to beat the eventual SEC Champion during the season.

But that’s like getting ranked 20 or 22nd for a few weeks nobody cares or remembers.

Marshall has defeated an eventual Big 12 during the season. We have also defeated an eventual Big East champion as well, so we have 2 such Power Conference trophies.

In the last 20 years Marshall and Rice have both won NCAA team championships.

You won a baseball championship in the WAC right?

You want to throw in conference championships...ok we have 5 in CUSA...who else can say that? The only reason it is in question now is b/c we have not been as consistent as we were known to be and that is fair but it doesn't take away our success.

I understand all that. This is factual. However, all this ended. And it did not end yesterday. It ended almost a decade ago.

College football has been played for many decades. Where do you draw the line in the sand as wins no longer relevant b/c of time?

I don't know where the dividing line should be. Should it be 5 years? 8 years? 10 years? 15 years? I don't know. But 8 years sounds like a long time.

I'm 42 lol. 8 years is nothing to me. I guess for younger fans the "what have you done for me lately" factors in more. We have beat Alabama 7 times but a young FAU fan would say, right only when Alabama sucked and I would say ohh so even the best team ever has sucked at times? Does that make them less relevant? USM needs to become a consistent winner again and then this flagship business will be sealed for good.
We’re not here to debate the past boomer. Focus on the present and discuss the possible future. You guys always want to talk about beating Bama in 1940. Well guess what, you’re in Conference USA and you stand little to no chance at beating Sabans Bama like the rest of us.

I don’t even hate USM but the boomer fans have to bring up the “good ole days” in every thread. It’s the same tires old story, just create a thread every week for you and Marshall fans to reminisce. No one else cares.

Don’t be too hard on them. FAU et al don’t have “good ole days” yet. Not a knock against them, they just don’t have the history yet. You will. And you will also remember the “good ole days” especially if you are successful during them…. History does matter insofar as perception.

Well I guess if we can't decide who's the flagship after 200 posts then let's just say the Flagship is the team of the last poster in this thread.

You know what’s funny, a team trying to claim being a “flagship” that’s only won the conference once in 15 years. Now that’s funny. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

And look, I used more of your stupid laughing head emojis

Once again, only two teams since 2014 have finished the regular season ranked and only one team has been ranked in multiple seasons.

I thought we were only referencing from the last round of realignment in 2014?

If not then I think we are the only ones with a Top 10 finish and have more Heisman Finalists than anyone else... flagship.

Yeah took down South Carolina in '98, our second year in FBS. Almost got Georgia and Tennessee. All on the road. Florida whipped our butts but that was when they started their championship runs in the early 2ks and they pulled players from that game to start the whole NCAA investigation thing and we lost to Ole Miss by 3 points in our first modern bowl game in '97 in Detroit. We never laid down for these teams like we did under Doc. We believed we could beat anyone and we gave it hell for 4 quarters. They were like Apollo Creed at the end of Rocky "Ain't gonna be no rematch!"
