make an east coast conference with this core. build it up for 10yrs or so.

GSU, GS, UAB, Troy, USA, ODU, JMU, App, UNCC, Coastal, FAU, FIU

criteria considered: competitive football/basketball league, academics reputation, sustainable enrollment (~20k+), healthy endowment(~$100mil+), recruiting locations, attractive TV markets, financial commitment for substantial growth

some didnt meet all the criteria, but made up for excellence in some other areas.

Swap out JMU for Marshall and we are good.

UAB, Troy, Ga State, Ga Southern, App, and UNCC would be an excellent nucleus to an east coast based conference and there’s plenty of nearby teams to fill out the rest.

Wait a minute... I thought GA State was a shoo-in for the AAC?

read before trying to meme please. was literally the first sentence.

obviously if AAC came calling, UAB or GSU or Buffalo or ODU or any other that fits AAC's profile will entertain the offer.

RE: Oh my, more expansion talk.....
another idea to pass the time.
What if AAC implodes after Houston/SMU/Cincinatti leave for greener pasture, Navy goes indi, Temple partners with UMASS, Buffalo, UCONN, WMU, Ohio, etc for a new NE conference, private schools want out for a conference that suits their needs, wichita state leaves for basketball conference like MVC, and so forth?

Eastern Athletic Conference
GSU, GS, UAB, Troy, USA, ECU, App, UNCC, ODU, Memphis, USF, UCF....and 2 more room for anyone interested (FAU. FIU, JMU, Marshall, Coastal, etc)

The cool thing about being an Arkansas State fan is we know we'll be in the Sun Belt forever, so no point jumping in on expansion talk...

Agree. Army's in a good place. Sort of like the Sun Belt Conference. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

The SEC wasn’t broke either.

There might be a window for us to take some big Cusa assets if things roll our way. If AAC gets raided to hell, we may be able to leverage our ESPN deal to convince 2 of UAB usm or Marshall to join.

RE: Oh my, more expansion talk.....
I think the SBC was happy at 10 because the Big 12 was also at 10, so we weren’t alone. Now that seems to be gone, as well as conference divisions. They will also be a thing of the past. So during this new round of realignment, we could see the SBC go to 12 or even 14, if the SBC survives, who really knows how this will shake out. Make no doubt about it, ESPN has a lot to do with all the realignment, from the SEC to the SBC, and we just got a new deal from them. We weren’t told about the value of the deal, that could be because it included us adding 2 to 4 schools.

Right now ESPN doesn’t have CUSA, but there are some brands in CUSA that have value, Marshall, UAb(it is in the heart of college football) and USM. So if they want the SBC to go to 14 and add those 3, guess where the invites are headed.

ESPN controls college football, not the NCAA!!!

I much as I dislike UNCC, a conference with GSU, UAB and UNCC would be good for all of them. That I85/I20 three way rivalry would be good. Those plus USA in basketball and that's a decent BBall league. Add USM/Marshall/UAB's football name/strength to the SBC and you have the makings of getting a CFP12 spot every few years plus some NCAA tourney credits.

I don't see those four diluting the conference's paycheck. The opposite, actually.

UNCC's final four run was made while in the SBC.

Coastal had a great year and was still largely considered lesser than Cincinnati mostly due to conference affiliation.

If the AAC pushes west and adds say Boise, SDSU and BYU, it would cripple the MWC and make us, the MAC and CUSA third class citizens for good.

BYU has bigger fish to fry. The Cougars will more than likely move to what's left of the Big 12.

This.

I think the Big 12 tries to keep its four-schools-in-Texas setup and adds Houston to replace UT. And then they'll go after the biggest brand available that's not in Texas, and that's BYU. I think they edge out Cincinnati and UCF, who would be next in line if the Pac or B1G pick off more B12 schools.

I don't think Boise even gets considered.

right. I think the most logical adds for the B12 would be BYU and Houston. with those two added there wouldnt be much interest for cincy or ucf unless the conference is no longer desirable to WVU and they decide to split.

The new ESPN deal speaks loud and clear that Belt is up to something. ESPN wouldn't put more games on TV without value. The Belt is now protected by ESPN. I wouldn't be surprised to see us add 2 more teams. I don't think anybody will be leaving. ESPN thinks we have a strong brand and will continue to grow.

Agreed. They just extended our contract for 3 years and added 6-7 games to it. Marshall has had every single home game snagged up by CUSA's TV partners. There's media value there and ESPN might decide they don't want Stadium/CBSSN/Facebook to get any boost from it.

The only thing in my opinion, would be for the Belt add USM and UAB and I don't give $#!^ about the "but there are already two members from Alabama" talk.

You and I have been on the same page with a nucleus of these six for quite sometime.
My dream conference for the SBC would be to wait to see if the BIG 12 poaches the AAC and based off of that, drop LR and UTA (sorry), and extend offers to the best of the rest. Who knows, we could pair SMU, UTSA, or Rice with TX St, add USM, UAB, Marshall, Charlotte, ODU along with potentially Memphis, ECU or even USF. And it that makes 18 or 20, so be it!! I’d wager those 20 would get us a spot in the playoffs which is much better than no chance or shot at all. And if we want to rebrand as the Metro, that’s fine as well. I just have a gut feeling this ESPN deal has the potential to really payoff for us.

The rules would have to change. The B12 could/can afford to go to 14 or more because they have a size-able media contract. They aren’t playing with 6 figs like we are, and so that million dollars per school that we get is more than play money for us. I think at best we go to 12, and that’s with ESPNs blessing to pay out more.
