Rankings jumped from CFP back to AP. You guys dropped one spot in the AP.
OK thanks.
Two. We went from 15 to 17, but still the top non-P5.

One. And you can't convince me for a second that any of our ranked teams couldn't play with, or beat, Clemson.
If there wasn't such an inherent bias, Memphis would have been much higher going into the NY6 game and would have finished somewhere around 12-14.
IMO, Clemson will destroy the Tigers, but I like our chances against any other ACC squad.
Clemson barely got by several bad or mediocre ACC teams this year. Why would you say that?
Simply put, Clemson has players better at football than Memphis (particularly on the O and D lines). Sure, an upset is possible under the right conditions (e.g., turnovers, severe lack of motivation), but Memphis does not have enough thoroughbreds to win the race or even keep it close.

We laid about 500 yards on Penn State's defense. That might have something to do with it. Might have been the best offensive Penn State faced since Ohio State.

RE: Final AP Poll: AAC Finishes with 4 Ranked Teams
The AAC might really be making some inroads to getting respect if a 10-3 that lost to Tulsa can make it in. I feel like 8-5 aTm would have made it most years. I also wonder if our home/away slate factored into us sliding in. We played 6 bowl-eligible teams this year, and *none* of those games were played in our own stadium.

The league is very solid. Next year there will be no sure wins.

We scored more points on Penn State (39) than did Ohio State (28). In fact, we scored 8 more points on Penn State than did anybody else all season.

I think that could be said for pretty much everybody that wasn’t in the playoff plus Oklahoma

RE: Final AP Poll: AAC Finishes with 4 Ranked Teams
I think the key for our conference(G5) every year is where are we ranked to begin? seems were rarely ranked or if we are in the 20s. if one of us can start the year and say the top 15-17, run the table there’s no way we can’t be in the conversation for a playoff I know some say it’s impossible but I don’t know how they can justify it. Usually we start out of the top 25 and will slowly work our way in . Which doesn’t leave time or enough weeks to move up high enough even if we ran the table

Congrats to all on a great season for the conference .
I'm pretty sure Boise wouldn't be in top 4 in AAC, but not even sure if they can beat Temple or SMU either.

We needed so many teams to lose their bowl games to slide into the Top 25, and my god, it happened. Three Top 25 teams in a row, I'll take it.

Tulsa beat a team that finished ranked in the top 25. Not sure of the last time that happened.

The conference was underrated this past year and will probably be again next year. As tough as it was this year, it is going to be even tougher in 2020. I would put the top teams in our conference against anybody, except for the very top 3 or 4 in the playoffs.

Yep. We'll have one team barely in the top 25 just in case they run the table,,,,can't let them slip into the top 4 right. 2 or 3 in the top 40 . Then everyone else to the back of the bus behind every p5 team that might have a pulse. Oh yeah and Boise in the top 25 just in case we beat each other up,,, because you know the mwc is equal to the AAC lol. SOS every year wash rinse repeat.

This always will be the biggest problem.. Memphis finished a hell of a year, competed with a top ten program, finished ranked, brings back everyone but their head coach and will drop in the preseason poll.
Cincinnati finished a hell of a year, dominated a terrible ACC team, finished the year ranked, really only has turnover at the LB spot, and will drop in preseason polls.
UCF will probably stay close to where they finished, but SMU (10-3) and Navy (11-2) will fall in AP polls. Meanwhile schools like Ole Miss, Texas, and Nebraska will find their way in.
Biggest thing for this conference is finding a way to keep 3 or 4 teams in the preseason poll, then our 17th ranked teams and 20th ranked teams need to climb into the 10-13 ranked area, and we need to continue to win our out of conference games and bowl games.
But it all starts with the disrespect in preseason polls.. that sets the table for the season

Agree mostly but not that we have a Clemson beater. Not even close IMO.

Yeah, Clemson had a few close games but all teams have a slip up. Clemson would eat all of the AAC's lunch.
That said, the rest of the conference would probably do really well against the ACC.

Clemson seemed to be on cruise control for the first half of the year and then realized that they were slipping in the polls and needed to whip some teams badly to stay in the race for the playoff.

RE: Final AP Poll: AAC Finishes with 4 Ranked Teams
A few thoughts
1. I find it surprising that Cincinnati was the best defensive team Memphis played outside of (maybe) Ole Miss.
2. Cincinnati had a carousel at the O-line and the last thing that would've gave Ohio State a game is a young inexperienced O-line which ended up causing our starting quarterback to get hurt. I don't think there was anyway UC could win that game but if they didn't lose their guard while starting a kid who only had being playing college football a couple years and learning offensive line for one I'm sure 40 - 0 would've definitely not happened
3. I don't care who's not coaching and what player decided not to play Boston College is a P5 team with "P5 talent" and UC essentially shut out their offense.
I believe UC could've played with Clemson with the team they took to BC. Do I believe they would've won? That's a tall ask, but I do think they would've gave them a run for their money.
Consider Cincinnati made Memphis look human on offense for most of both games they played while Penn State couldn't stop them. I have complete confidence that healthy Cincinnati can play with MOST teams in college football.
