Reveno is. Sadly he was head coach at Portland State where he flammed out. But he can coach bigs at an elite level. The person not living up to their end of the bargain is Pastner when it comes to being an alleged top recruiter.

Of course his recruiting was helped by recruiting for Lute Olsen's Arizona teams and then John Calipari's teams. I don't know much about Arizona, but I know Calipari was getting the players before Pastner arrived and long after Pastner left. His first recruiting class at Memphis was outstanding but that consisted of Memphis kids and the two Barton kids from Atlanta. Cyprien brought the 2 Barton kids, which is why he was hired as an assistant. Outside of that he brought in a handful of top Memphis kids but even that was dying. He had to hire Keelon Lawson to get Dedric Lawson. The worst part was, the kids were transferring left and right after getting to campus and seeing Pastner wasn't what they thought he was.

I really wanted to see the triple option continue with Art Monken or Ken the Hawaiian, but you got to be patient with the transition.

I thought Tech hiring Pastner was the most unbelievable hire ever... until UCLA hired Cronin.

Whats so unbelievable about UCLA hiring Cronin? Hes a MUCH, MUCH better coach than Pastner. Even though Cronin hasnt had much success during the tourney I would take him over Pastner every day of the week. Wasnt Cronin a UC alumnus? If so, I can see why its hard to believe that he left Cincy for another prgram, but it is UCLA.

Everything was going swimmingly until you switched brands. Somewhere Russell Athletic is LOLing OUT LOUD. Probably starting troll threads on a Nike message board.

Oh, I don't know...

… perhaps the years of unfulfilled potential and frustration.

What was the vintage on that pour? Proof? Judging by the effects it was probably flammable.

I would think Cronin would have been about UCLA's 10th choice and judging from their coaching search, that's about right.

RE: Next up on the chopping block: Pastner
Quote:Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner elevated assistant coach Eric Reveno’s title to associate head coach Friday, calling it a “well-deserved promotion.”

Reveno is the lone assistant coach who remains with Pastner from his original staff. He has developed a reputation for his work with post players, including Ben Lammers (2017 ACC defensive player of the year) and James Banks (2019 ACC all-defensive team), and for his use of analytics to inform the Yellow Jackets’ development and game planning.

Why just associate head coach? He's the only one on that staff doing work. As far as I'm concerned make him acting head coach and Pastner the associate.

I thought the same as well. That was a WTH hire on a coach that was average at best in C-USA. As for UCLA, I had the same reaction when they hired Steve Alford from New Mexico. For those who don’t know, New Mexico with all its basketball “tradition” has never been to the Sweet 16. UTEP fans back when both schools were in the WAC, used to call the Lobos “One and Done University” although we have no room to talk smack these days. Still, I’d rather be a “has been” than a “never been.”

Partner could be a good fit at a school where the pressure to win is not that bad (e.g. UTSA) and be able to win at least 20 games per season. He’s a good recruiter (he worked under Calipari) but I’ve seen good recruiters fail as coaches.

Shot across the bow.

"mightn’t" Is that a word in Atlanta? Or just by Mark Bradley? It's obvious what he means but I've never seen that contraction before.

Wake and/or Tech should consider Mike Lonergan.

Tech beats BC tonight to improve to .500 both in ACC play and overall at 8-8. Time for a Pastner extension GTS? 02-13-banana

Yeah, maybe he can get one of those rolling contracts where it re-ups every year for 5 years. So that no matter when they fire him, they owe him for 4 years of non-coaching.
