There's a serious question as to whether the AAC members would prefer to add Boise, or Air Force or SDSU, given the fact that Boise might be inclined to view the AAC as a stepping stone to the P5 by 2026.

How realistic the idea is that Boise could get an invitation from the Big-12 as an all-sports member is somewhat debatable, however.

There is virtually 0 chance of Boise going to the P5. That being said, I don't see any MWC moving with the new deal. Add to that the only way Boise works for AAC is FB only, and $$$ does not add up.

That may indeed be the case.

However, if it is, it would limit the AAC's options to either adding a non-MWC FB team or staying with 11 FB programs and dealing with the consequences.

Sticking with 11 may not seem so bad right now, but it may start to next season, if or when there is a decline in AAC viewership due to the loss of UConn (MBB, WBB, in particular).

Beyond that, concerns about the future of the conference may be expected to escalate year after year, as the possibility of conference realignments in 2025-2026 draws nigh.

According to the original terms of the 12-year agreement, it has apparently been reported, the deal with ESPN would cease to apply if more than one remaining AAC member should follow UConn's lead and switch conferences.

Given that situation, and zero interest from MWC schools, the AAC may become more amenable to the idea of inviting a non-MWC team, such as Buffalo, within 2-3 years.

Adding a school is the most likely outcome if the NCAA does not permanently approve an 11 team league while playing a CCG.

I think that is not only possible, but likely probable.

It certainly could, but would ESPN be prepared to boost the AAC members' payouts before the end of the 12-month contract deal?

If not, the AAC members might well prefer to add AF or SDSU FB, since they come a lot closer to matching the academic and overall profile of the conference.

The AAC would be content with the same money per school if it is the same before or after UConn left.

Not sure adding a trucking school would do anything for the AAC.

How ESPN would it be if they picked the plums out of the MWC, placed them the AAC and sent the rest to Fox... problem solved.

Pretty sure that “losing two teams” and triggering a renegotiation refers to the 12 schools that signed the original 2019 agreement. So adding a 12th team that wasn’t there in 2019 won’t matter with respect to your concerns of triggering a renegotiation. 04-cheers

New contract removes all motivation for BSU & other MWC schools to move to the AAC. While BSU & the MWC are significantly behind the AAC, they are close enough in TV revenue to have little motivation to move to the AAC.

I could see that. Solves the western time zone issue for ESPN not having inventory. They only have to pay for 1-3 of them. Kills off the good inventory that fox would have broadcast.

Not sure....$3 million, more exposure with ESPN, AAC constantly in the ny6, and ABC games.

The TV $ keeps the AAC gap small but the geography will widen gap more. When you have to get on a plane to recruit you will have a hard time keeping up with those who can drive.

Yeah, but raise your hand if.....wait no....raise your hand if your team DOESN'T view the AAC as a stepping stone to the P5.

Guess if we get a nice check UConn will be welcomed back with open arms as well. Long live the ConFLiCT

Oh good, then ESPiN is forced to look in and renegotiate if, for augment sake, Tulsa leaves... Money grab for the AAC.

Sure it does... The Mountain West schools should be happy making half of what the AAC makes... But none of the members of the AAC should ever be happy making half of the ACC, PAC, or Big XII?

Very sound logic... I don't believe for a second that any of the MW members are happy including BSU, and the rest of the league is definitely not happy with the BSU arrangement.

hello, I turned my tweets into an Extra Points newsletter:

Could the new MWC TV deal be the start of what convinces Boise State to leave the league?

Does this deal hurt the Pac-12?

How much will the schools *actually* make?

this and more, all here:

I don't see Boise leaving the MWC as I don't see a P5 bid coming. I think negotiating the MWC, Boise and Hawaii is a bit much for all involved. Boise does help raise the profile of the MWC, so I think they will still find a way to appease them.

I do wonder without ESPN's pull, what will Boise's scheduling look like? They are the ones that line up the marquee match ups like FSU etc. The more P5 teams you beat, the less they all like to play you.
