Ridder has been a below average qb since he got to UC. That was fine as a redshirt fresh. He gave UC enough. He didn't progress this year which made it hard on the offense. And the last few weeks he's either been hurt or in his own head because he's been an utter disaster.

Pregame on TV Fickell said he's absolutely fine, can make all the plays and is not limited in any way. Love the guy, but I call BS.

Post game he said he didn’t practice most of the week, and it was a game time decision.

Yes that is what I responding/contrasting to. Fickell's done an incredible job overall, but he ought to at least get his story straight. He won't get the same slack if/when we hit tougher times.

Just back from the game - why do I feel like UC lost?

I really don't understand why Bryant doesn't at least get a drive or two to see what he can do. In his post-game interview, Fickell admitted Ridder is playing injured.

The offense is limited by his inability to throw long or accurately. I give Ridder credit for being gutsy but Memphis is going to score a lot of points on UC and the Bearcats are going to have to be able to throw the ball to win.

There is merit to that. A full game experience would be good for Bryant leading up to the championship game.

From the stands it looked Degura dropped a TD throw. No scoreboard replay to see if that ball should have been caught.

Dan mentioned that they have lost the yardage battle 6 out of the last 7. I think he also said that they have been out gained by 100 yards in the last three. I may have heard the last part wrong.

Looked very catchable to me. Lots of drops.

Quite a few passes were dropped tonight. As usual, just as many or more were under-thrown. The offense is anemic right now.

We sat in the west side club seats. It looked like the rain was blowing over the grandstand to the east. I assume the field was wet and that the few people in the east stands were soaked.

I note Russo was terrible as well.

Mike Warren IMO saved the day.

The football Gods have been smiling pretty widely on the Bearcats this season.
On the drive home from the game Dan Hoard said of the last 7 games UC had fewer offensive yards than the opponent in 6 yet won all of them. This has to catch up to the Cats at some point and some point is likely friday.
I can't imagine this team can go down to Memphis and get a W with as poorly as they have played in recent weeks.

Someone is going to sacrifice a goat to the football Gods for a W against Memphis.

It definitely should have been a catch andprobably a TD.

Ridder wasn't great - but way too many drops tonight. Even his one interception should have been caught. Deguara dropped a TD. Jackson dropped a short 3rd down pass when UC was driving. Des protected the ball, used his legs, fed a successful rushing attack - and Won!

RE: Temple Game 7PM ESPN2
based on what Fick said post-game...
Bryant got first team reps most of the week until Des came back to practice on thursday and friday...
Des got the start because he was good enough to go to beat Temple at home...
but maybe he will now sit out and rest for two weeks and hopefully heal...
so now Bryant gets two weeks of first team reps and will start on friday against Memphis...

Memphis will prep for Des...and even if they prep some for Bryan they have almost no film...

if UC loses to Memphis it doesn't matter as much as beating them the following week...with a healed Des under center.

Could Fick be playing chess rather than checkers?

Des definitely had some bad drops tonight (fortunately so did Temple). Had those catches been made he would have had just a bad game instead of a terrible game.

Rushed for -3 yards, protected the ball because he threw them where no one could catch it most of the time (I think that was an "oh **** I dont have to dive recklessly for a ball" level of surprised kind of drop for Deguara), and handed the ball off a lot. Get the man his Heisman! 04-cheers

"Wasnt great" is a complete misrepresentation...the dude has been borderline pitiful the last three weeks, and if he's out there playing like dogshit because he is hurt, that's on the staff for not making an adjustment.

Back from the game. Embarrassed by the no shows. Other than being cold there was no reason not to be in your seat. Wife and I stayed out the entire game when many stayed in the club and got smashed.

To many drops!

With a gift first and goal at the 6 and a lame arm QB what idiot calls a deep rollout?

Put Doaks in Bearcat for at least 3 runs.

The INT was not Dez fault as the pass should have been caught.

Deguara dropped a TD pass.

BDF said Dez over Ben was a game time decision.

Will not win at Memphis with a lame QB.

I KNOW RIGHT?

I'd much rather be a 4 win team with a great QB.

I dunno, the defense has been rather amazing.

Look, I'd rather have the offense scoring 35 points a game too but this is not the time of season to put the other guy in just to see what he can do.

You can tinker with other positions but for some reason, you just don't mess with the QB position. It didn't work with Roger Staubach and Craig Morton and it doesn't work now.

Temple switches QB's every game and I've seen other games of theirs where it was a big mistake. It kills whatever continuity your offense has.

Lat night wasn't all on Ridder. Pearce dropped at least two, Deguara dropped a sure fire TD that was put right in there and some other guys made drops too.

So yeah, I hear what everyone is saying and I bet Fickell does too. But it's too late in the season to change things up.

I do think a bit more imagination on the part of the OC is in order as well.

Saban changed QBs in a national championship. There is no right time to do it.

Ridder has gone from serviceable but flawed to utterly abysmal. Whether he's hurt or in his own head he's been a disaster. We're lucky our defense and special teams (and power running) has bailed us out. Hidden yards on special teams were huge.
