RE: JMU announces 2021 & 2022 home & home series with Weber St
As a harsh reminder of FCS reality, Weber State averaged 8,200 fans per game last year in what was just described as their golden age of football.

From a competition standpoint, this is a good FCS OOC game, but it is not a good replacement for a P5 OOC game and pales in comparison to what JMU should have every year as its marquee game.

JMU needs to dump Campbell or Morehead State and get a FBS team on the schedule. It can still happen as there are almost 2 years before these games are played.

Went to Snow Canyon while staying in Saint George. Cool town. Also did Zion and Bryce. Bryce is the coolest first view of any place I have been, went in late fall after a few inches of snow had fallen. I really hope I make the trip for the game, looking forward to it.

Also stayed in Saint George after hitting Bruce, Zion & Capital Reef in 06’. Were at those 3 National Parks again in 15’ along with Arches & Canyonlands out by Moab. If anyone does Zion should do Angels Landing hike- its on just about any list of top hikes/nat park hikes in the US. Better not have a fear of heights though...

Passed on Angels Landing, I am a little old and wimpy. Did Observation Point instead which is more my speed.

I want to do Canyonlands and Arches

Go Dukes

RE: JMU announces 2021 & 2022 home & home series with Weber St
Spent some time in Utah. My daughter went to the University of Utah (or "the U," as the locals call it), at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Her fiance, now husband, was Urban Meyer's top recruit in 2004, then transferred to JMU in 2006 when he and my daughter prematurely started a family. Their dorms were in the Olympic Village, left over from the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Who has openings that would schedule us still? Playing JMU is like a tough G5 opponent that only counts as an FCS win, hard sell to anyone that watched our game this year.

UConn 2020 schedule

Sept. 3: UMass
Sept. 12: at Illinois
Sept. 26: Indiana
Oct 24: at Ole Miss
Oct. 31: Liberty
Nov. 14: at San Jose State
Nov. 28: Army
Dates TBA: Maine, at Virginia.

Room for 2 more games?

I know it doesn’t align with the strategy but JMU @ Uconn in 2020 in return for JMU hosting Uconn in 2023?

You do know it takes both teams to agree to a game right? JMU cant just walk into any schools athletic department, demand a game and also ask for $400k. Bourne has said he would prefer to have an FBS game on the schedule mainly for the money but this game replaces that for 2021. Makes me believe they have tried and failed to agree to an FBS game

We land a very good OOC game in an incredibly scenic setting at a location that is very easy to travel and some of you are still complaining. JFC I want FBS as much as anybody but it can't be fun being miserable all the time!

UCONN will be an easier win than Weber.

For Weber, it's always been a struggle competing for fans with 3 FBS programs all within an hours drive, including a PAC12 school and a school that's the flagship university for the predominant religion in the state. When Dixie St becomes D1 next season, the State of Utah will have 7 D1 schools. That's a lot for a state with a population of around 3 million.

This is why I respect your program much more than those dirt boxes up in the Dakotas.

He interviewed Bourne about the game and he said they first talked about it when Weber State came to Harrisonburg. Through the last few years they have kept in touch and it just worked out between them and us.
Another very important note: Bourne said that when these deals are brought to them from different schools, they only want games where the time frame makes sense. What he means is that each school should travel to the other in a reasonable amount of time. If the other school cannot return the favor in four or five years that isn't a deal that they want, which I completely agree with.

Has he done a podcast for each game this year? He use to post it on the Dukes Domain website in previous years. I've only found one from this year--just before the Stony Brook game. That one was not on the Dukes Domain website; I got it through another link.

Haha, yeah kind of sounds out of place. The St George area has always been known as Utah's Dixie due to it's warmer climate and because it started as a cotton growing settlement. And until just recently the school's mascot was the Rebels. In today's PC climate they decided that Rebels was too much of a reference to the confederacy and Old South. They thought of changing the name of the school as well but decided against it.

Will they be a full scholly FCS independent or one like Davidson, FCS in name only?

Full Scholly. They're located in St George, UT, about 1.5 hrs from Vegas, in one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Their facilities are already on par with many Big Sky schools. It will probably take some time for them to start winning at the D1 level, but they should eventually be pretty solid. Wouldn't be a surprise to see them in the Big Sky at some point.

In the spirit of Dixie State being a fcs startup 1 hour from vegas, anybody taking bets on Dixie State in a fbs conference before JMU?

You may not be aware of this, but it actually takes 2 sides to agree to a game. JMU cannot just walk in and demand the game and the price. Folks have been bitching about getting a bigtime FCS OOC home-home lined up and as soon as it gets done folks are immediately complaining about whatelse they want in a schedule. This is not fantasy football. And at the end of the day the #1 priority is setting up a schedule that is competitive and still sets JMU up for a seeded playoff bid.

Folks complain about the schedule this year but with the CAA games, thru 9 games this week.
- JMU played a P5 FBS team
- 4 ranked CAA foes
- FCS Chatty on the road (currently 1st place in SOCON)
- St Francis who is one game out of 1st in the NEC (auto-bid league)
