#10 Middle Tennessee

It seems odd to place MT so far down. They have placed quality teams on the field for years now. But, Stock is gone, and replacing his ability and leadership won't happen over night. I see Middle getting better down the stretch, but WKU and Charlotte are probably going to be too strong for them this season.

My prediction for Middle Tennessee 3-9 (2-6)
L- @Michigan
W- Tenn St.
L- Duke
L- @Iowa
L- Marshall
L- @FAU
L- @North Texas
L- FIU
L- @Charlotte
W- Rice
W- ODU
L- @WKU

Enjoy debating. I should post my #9 on Thursday.

I like what you are doing but methinks, you're running out of time. Season is almost at our door and you still have 9 teams to highlight.

Admirable effort, though...

You're right. I've fallen behind. I have them all finished. I've just been spacing out the release to give time for debate. But, I'll be posting #9 in a moment, and than release a new one each day, so I can finish before the season starts.

RE: 2019 Schedule Breakdowns: Middle Tennessee
We now reach what I call the middle of the conference. I think it is a very small group too.

#9 Charlotte

I think the schedule creates a good opportunity for Charlotte to increase their wins total this season. The 9ers bring back more defensive players than another other program in C-USA. That experience should be big for them. And, I think Charlotte will benefit from scheduling 2 weaker OOC opponents (Gardner-Webb & UMass), and getting MT at home. Yes Charlotte travels to UTEP, but I think defense gets them that road win. If ODU struggles this season, they probably won't have much left in the tank in the last week of the regular season.

My prediction for Charlotte 5-7 (3-5)
W- Gardner-Webb
L- @App St.
W- UMass
L- @Clemson
L- FAU
L- @FIU
L- @WKU
L- North Texas
W- Middle Tenn
W- @UTEP
L- Marshall
W- @ODU

Enjoy debating. I should post my #8 on tomorrow.

Feel free to debate my opinions. I always welcome good sound logic. I decided to just update this one thread and change the title to reflect the current team be evaluated. I just seems easier.

For the record, I am predicting the eastern division to be stronger in 2019. I believe the eastern schools will finish with a 42-42 regular season record, while I believe the western schools will finish 39-45. But, I think the west will have 4 teams finish bowl eligible, while I think the east finishes with just 3. If that sounds confusing, it will make more sense once all of my schedule breakdowns have been posted.

My C-USA Ranking Prediction
9. Charlotte 5-7 (3-5)
10. Middle Tennessee 3-9 (2-6)
11. Rice 2-10 (2-6)
12. UTEP 3-9 (1-7)
13. UTSA 2-10 (1-7)
14. ODU 1-11 (0-8)

Today I start with the team I believe will be the worst in C-USA this season... ODU.

Last season, I predicted ODU to finish 6-6, but they actually finished 4-8, with impressive wins over Virginia Tech and North Texas. I still don't understand how ODU lost to Liberty, ECU, or Rice.

2019- In my opinion, Bobby Wilder should have been let go after last season. Overall, I think his 2018 team under preformed, and now he will be faced with the challenge of leading a much less experienced team. I think Wilder has the toughest job in C-USA this season. He will have to coach what is left of a 4 win team with the fewest number returning starter (8) in C-USA. Two P5 road trips early in the season will probably place them behind the eight ball. Plus, aside from ODU and MT, I see every team in C-USA East getting better this year. I don't have a lot of confidence in ODU posting a winning record, and have them ranked last in C-USA East, and C-USA overall.

My prediction for ODU 1-11 (0-8)
W- Norfolk State
L- @Virginia Tech
L @ Virginia
L- ECU
L WKU
L @Marshall
L- @UAB
L- FAU
L- @FIU
L- UTSA
L- @Middle Tenn
L- Charlotte

Enjoy debating, and I'll post my pick for #13 on Sunday.
I kinda hope you're right, that record would ensure Bobby Wilders one way trip back to Waterville, Maine. And then maybe ODU can become that which I'm hoping for.

I like how you are combining everyone into one mega thread this year Joe, as always, good work.

And I completely understand where you are going here.

I have FIU, FAU and Marshall in a tier significantly higher from the other East schools, but it will be a dogfight.

I think North Texas is in a tier by themselves this season, with Southern Miss, LA Tech and UAB after.

BTW...holy heck I just realized you have a pretty similar take to what I have.

I think I also had nearly all up to this point with similar records, but I had Charlotte at 4-8...

Everyone else pretty spot on.

Level headed? He seems like a nice enough guy, but even he will tell you he is the biggest homer on this entire board. Only posts positive things about his school and would never say something negative about anything that has to do with the university or the athletic programs.

That is the best-possible-scenario for uncc. They should definitely beat Gardner-Webb, and you’re assuming they will win all 4 of the toss-ups. Could happen.

RE: 2019 Schedule Breakdowns: Charlotte
You guys shouldn't sleep on Charlotte this season. A very good defense with a lot of returning players plus a LB transfer from Penn State and a CB transfer from Tennessee. I think the defense will be better. On offense we have a strong running game and legit wide receiver talent. A big question mark will be at QB (Redshirt SO who got injured last season or transfer from South Florida) where both are likely to play against GW. The biggest question mark for me is the O Line, but early reports are pretty good. If we stay healthy we have the talent to win CUSA, but if we start to see injuries we could finish close to last.

Had to edit to add one more thing. I think Charlotte has the best special teams in CUSA.

UTEP is a toss up?

Well, we did beat FAU on the road and WKU by five touchdowns last season. WKU didn’t add that much, still don’t have a Qb, and Lane didn’t get a kicker so I don’t think it’s nuts to say that on the table.

Saying that those two plus ODU (lost everybody), and Middle (lost their 20 year Qb) are coming back with better personnel that they had last year is a stretch.

I think we beat UMASS, GW, and UTEP.

I think we have leaning our way tossups against ODU, Middle, and WKU.

FAU could go either way.

To enhance your credibility - and with all due respect - put out predictions you would truly put money on. I would put up my house against this prediction and sleep like a baby.

Ha! I don't gamble. But, I'd like to know where you see more wins for ODU?

I don’t gamble either - but predictions should be made with the seriousness of real money on the line. Causes one to pause and changes everything. As far as more wins, look to the home games - and just random chance (49-35). Again, I would put my house up against your prediction and sleep like a baby. Not sure if you would do the same.

ya know, you could just answer his question instead of stupid rhetoric...specifics...not just "home games"...which home games? which random chance games?

Now I imagine the WKU game will be closer this year but everyone that keeps picking them over us needs to watch the below. I think the range is from 4—>8 wins but against WKU game we should be favored.

I actually look at Charlotte's schedule and I don't see very many wins.

Did western grow an Oline and a qb? Did FAU not lose two nfl rb’s and have an ineffective qb? Neither team was very good last season. I don’t see that either did a whole lot to make themselves better.

Charlotte (as well as WKU) got rid a huge anchor this offseason. Charlotte had better perso el on the field last season and beat them with the third stringer.
