I recall Cignetti saying that he prefers to offer a kid after he's worked that kid out on campus (typically at a camp). I trust Cig's ability to evaluate talent based on his resume. Don't be surprised if our offer raises these kid's profiles and they start getting "bigger" FBS offers down the road.

You asked what I was thinking too. But I look at HCCC’s recruiting track record and feel better.

Davis Cheek is a top 2 or 3 CAA QB right now and his only other offer was Lafayette. This is according to his 24/7 sports page.

Hopefully the JMU coaches were watching this game on ESPN there are still a few uncommitted recruits that could fit here. This small town team went down to Hammond,SC, and smoked them 36-0. Hammonds won 10 state titles since 2005 and their 6’6” 270 DE (also RB & WR) that is the #5 recruit in the country was totally negated. Can’t coach heart and the Southern Columbia kids have tons of it.

I like the retention of Houston recruits.

I like the additions/transfers to this year's team

It seems to me most of the current commits for 2020 have only received offers from FCS schools. Looks like three solid recruits, and a handful of others that have not garnered much attention from "our caliber" level school.

I realize that "other offers" is not the be all, end all for judging recruiting success. That said, it is one of the 1st things I look at after a recruit is announced. And I personally believe it does have an impact on the overall strength of a recruiting class

Just a small sample size, but the freshmen Dukes who did not redshirt last year (played in more than 4 games) were Devin Ravenel, Drew Painter and Mateo Jackson. All 3 had an offer from AAC or higher.
The 2019 true freshmen not expected to redshirt are Jalen Green and Austin Douglas. Both had FBS offers w/ Green having an ACC offer.

Just something to keep an eye on.

I am a little concerned about this class thus far. Initially, this class seems to be notch below EW's and MH's classes. I am going to wait until February to see who else we pick up before I become anxious.

A little concerning to me too because recruits do believe highly in stars and in the momentum of classes. I can't remain what OL commit it was but I remember reading in a Madia article that once they saw that AJ Webb (3 star) committed they believed in the hype of the class. I won't write anything off already because like others have mentioned, it's early, but something to keep an eye on.

Great football in that area. I used to live near Berwick (late 80's), just a few miles away and the Berwick High School team was consistently among the top teams in the country. I recall them being ranked #1 in the country at the end of at least one season. That's Cig country. He is going to recruit well in PA.

Southern Columbia was named National Champions this past season (small school). Berwick won a National Championship in the 80s, put some players in the pros and is where Notre Dame QB Ron Powlus was from, he of the Beano Cook 3 Heisman prediction. Berwick also has a Senior on their team this year that grew up in this system and transferred to Berwick a couple years ago when his dad got a coaching job; JMU was after him but he committed to ECU.

I know that Cole Mitchell was at the Villanova game. He's a 6'6", 235 lbs DE/TE in the 2021 class out of Linganore High School in Mt. Airy MD. His Father and I were teammates back in the 90s. The kid can play. He'll probably be a TE in college. His father told me that he's had offers from some MAC schools, interest from UMD, and some other P5s, but if it comes down to the G5 and JMU, he'd be coming to JMU. He grew up a UMD fan, but I doubt he goes there over JMU after listening to his Dad.

I almost forgot to mention that his mother played basketball at JMU also, so he's a double legacy. Run with the Dukes, Cole!

Speaking of UMD, their new head coach is panning out as well as I thought he would. Guy get's can'd after going 2-26 four games into his third season at Mexico. But Maryland hires him as their head coach just because he coached at Bama. He started off with 2 wins against bad teams, but has gone 1-5 the last 6 games. In a second I would of take Houston over Locksley. Of course hire a coach that can't win more than 1 game a year at New Mexico to coach Maryland.
