Toledo fans really shouldn’t complain about a venue where their basketball teams have won 8 out of 10 games...
Here's my beef which is barely beef:
Last week we heard about the atmosphere... (Packed house took down top 25 UB)
Toledo would have 5-10 sell outs a season based on that crowd and atmosphere. OU averages more than that per game!
BG's arena is quaint and new, but it isn't big time and other arenas offer much more of an NCAA tourney vibe IMO. Plus Miller lite sux.
...
Anderson had character and history... That's good stuff. The Stroh isn't in my bottom half of arenas in the league, but for how new it is, it missed the mark on potential.
Nothing will ever compare to Anderson Arena. It was honestly a mini Cameron Indoor Stadium that nationally was not known. As a BG fan, I didn’t like the Stroh Center at first. Student section being placed behind the hoop I think took away from its intimidation like Anderson had with students on top of players on the sidelines. It gave me the same feeling I imagined I’d have at Cameron. The Stroh Center has grown on me. For a town of 30,000, I think a 5,000 seat arena is more than fine. It looks beautiful from the outside, but I think the seating design inside could be much improved. The atmosphere the past 2 games have been much better in the Stroh vs. historically. Nothing will ever compare to Anderson though, which was my time as a student there during the Anthony Stacey and Keith McLeod era.
Sounds obsessive to me.
It is :). I miss the old Anderson Arena. Here’s a pic from the Michigan game and how the student section looked then.
I miss Myles Pizza more than Anderson Arena.

In our last 7 games we have gone 5-2, and in the two losses (vs Toledo and Kent), we had the lead with a minute to go. Executing down the stretch may be the last thing keeping Miami from being a really good team. It has been a long time since we have had a winning record, but we are 13-11 now and it seems quite possible that we will get there this year. Coach Owens has recruited good talent and those guys are getting better, starting to come into their own. Our defense/rebounding has improved so much in the last month. I think most Miami fans are excited about what these guys might accomplish in the next couple of seasons as this is a young roster with 3 SR's and 1 Junior.
How far we've already come since Cooper. Now to beg the fans to come back...

EMU drew the short end of the stick getting UB and Kent x2 in the East. I think they are more talented than the record suggests, but something with team charisma and coaching has been off.
NIU is sliding hard... WMU is probably the best worst team the conference has had in a while.
UB had to go on the road tonight for a hard fought W. Now it's back to Buffalo, then on to Toledo for Fridays match up? Woof.
BG started off sluggish but showed they are top 4 worthy by beating a good CMU team. It's too bad the good crowds didn't continue tonight.

Considering it's a Friday game I imagine Buffalo is just going to drive to Toledo tomorrow.

I thought I heard on the broadcast that UB is staying in Ohio. Could be wrong but that would make sense.

To be fair, Akron is down to 7 players.

They said 8 on the telecast, but yeah that’s rough.

One funny thing I forgot to mention during the Buffalo BGSU game. They had mascots come out during halftime from local restaurants, along with BGSU mascots for a race. The Buffalo mascot from BW3's came out and was getting booed by the crowd. Poor guy ... the crowd thought he was actually the mascot for Buffalo that came along for the trip.

The teams that drew the short end of the stick are Ohio and Miami. There are 5 teams with a winning MAC record and OU plays 4 of them 2x while Miami plays all 5 of them 2x.

We have now lost four in a row so i think we might have an argument that we're actually the worst team the conference has seen in a while. Oh, and it's not going to get any better any time soon. Take a look at our remaining games:
at Central Michigan
at Buffalo
host Bowling Green
at Kent State
at Akron
host Buffalo
host Miami
is it football season yet?!

Buffalo usually stays out on the road for multiple games much of the league schedule. I believe coach Oats said they had three week long trips in league play alone. It is something no other school in the league, except maybe NIU, has to deal with.

Yes - the players on the other MAC teams have classes to attend. That 6-hour trip from Athens to Buffalo is pretty rough.

New projections after 2/16 games. Notable changes: Falcons soaring to a 2 seed, Ball State huge jump in seeding to a 5.

#11 Ohio 4-14 @ #6 Central Michigan 9-9
#10 Eastern Michigan 7-11 @ #7 Akron 8-10
#9 Miami-OH 7-11 @ #8 Northern Illinois 7-11
Teams with realistic chances to win MAC Tourney

#3 Toledo 18%
#2 Bowling Green 6%
#4 Kent State 3%
#5 Ball State 2%
#6 Central Michigan 1%
