I have had root canals that were less painful than tonight’s game. The shot clock thing was ridiculous. Huge road win going into exam break. Hopefully the team rests up and get healthy heading into William Peace next Sunday.

RE: Hampton Game Looms Large
My wife and I sat near the Tribe bench and, despite the clock farce, really enjoyed this rare road victory at Hampton.

Solid performances by Knight and Pierce, not just for their scoring & rebounding, but for their leadership on the floor and on the bench.

The team played solid defense down the stretch: Hampton has a couple of talented players and our defense on them made the difference. I like Scott over Loewe...he assumes command on the court and is a much better offense threat. As he gets more experience he'll cut down on the turnovers.

Audige had an off offensive afternoon but continued to play solid, very aggressive defense. He's learning how to use his body on defense.

Bottom line: this was a win we really needed in a difficult place to play against a decent Hampton team. Somebody mentioned the GMU and UIC games: win those two, as we should have and this is a 5-5 team against the most difficult non-conference schedule in memory.
With everyone healthy it might have been 6-3.

Yes, the "searching for an extension cord" portion of the last 2 minutes of the game was inexcusable, but are you really complaining about the Hampton Band? There are numerous other threads on this board about improving the gameday experience at the Kap, with several discussions about improving the quality of our pep band. One of my BIG takeaways from yesterday's game at their Convocation Center was how much more engaged their fans were than Tribe fans, and Hampton's "Force" pep band was a major part of that. Probably close to 100 playing members, with all the extras (drum majors, dancers, twirlers) kept their fans entertained during breaks, including the interminable near-20 minute farce at the end.

Please tell me you weren't complaining about their band.

(NOTE: My ticket, which got me a seat right behind the Tribe bench, too, was only $5 at the window. Not sure how I managed that.)

Let me be perfectly clear here. I am not in the least complaining about the Hampton band’s playing during every legitimate stoppage in play as they provide great atmosphere for their fans. I do, however, have a big issue with the handling of what seemed like more than 20 minutes of play stoppage with 1:38 left in the game with us hanging on to a 2 point lead and Nate waiting to shoot a free throw. It was a tense time in the game and I just wanted them to either fix the @#$# clocks or get on with the inevitable conclusion that the 30 seconds were going to have to be kept by hand at the scorer’s table. I was in no mood to hear music at that point.

On ESPN+, I could hear the band during the stoppage. It made me wish I was there. The announcers were commenting about how they don't usually have to play so many songs in a row and might be getting tired. Every time I have been at Hampton, the band has been outstanding, and greatly superior to recorded music over the PA.

The exam break can't come soon enough or be long enough. He'll have that limp the rest of the year.

WRT bands, I like them a lot. My favorite is the Mustang Band at Cal Poly. They march around the outside of the field house playing the fight song prior to making their entrance on the court. It’s as if they’re announcing to the campus that something is up.
We could do something similar at the Kaplan. With bad weather, parade around the upper interior walkway. That would stimulate the interest from the fans. Get things rockin!!
