I doubt it. Lomax is way out in front. The juco's make more good plays than bad ... Martin too. I cringe when Lomax is in. He's lost !!

Starting lineup needs to be Brewton, Harris, Martin, Jones, and Parks IMO.

Kyvon is leading the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg and rebounding at 7.3 rpg. And he is a very good defender, his D rating thrugh 6 games is 110.5, which is excellent.

That is his offensive rating. A 110.5 D rating would be awful.

You can be a stat-stuffer and still be one of the main reasons your team loses just ask Carmelo. It isn't hard to put up stats when you are your team's only option in the post, but he just doesn't pass the eye test compared to a player like Jones. So far he is a shell of the player he was for us last year.

I can't quite figure out what the issue is yet.

Parks seems to be criminally underused in the post. He's shooting 64% from the field.

Even Harris seems to go MIA for too long...but his defense needs a lot of work.

Martin and Jones seem to have tunnel vision once they get the ball.

Brewton likely needs more run--but at the expense of whom?

Team misses too many bunnies--especially by Thornton and Kyvon.

Your Carmelo comparison quickly falls apart because Kyvon is a very good defender.

This shell of a player stuff is just silly.

Oops, Kyvon's Defensive Rating is actually 100.5, sorry for the typo. His Offensive rating is 110.5, which is good also.

Play Brewton (in place of Lomax) and Parks more and we win that game.

I heard the same thing in football. I suppose you were for Fuente playing "piano man" at quarterback instead of Paxton Lynch. Sometimes it's more about developing a player or players for the future than about that "instant gratification".

Dude, he has a full year to get them experience. No reason to give up on the season after a few games. No one is saying not to develop the players, but let’s try to win some games though.

Ya. Football and basketball are apples and oranges in this case, especially trying to compare a QB. The starting QB gets probably 95% of snaps in a season and the 5% the backup gets are scrub minutes where he is most likely handing the ball or possibly throwing a handful of times. Whatever it is, it is certainly not enough to learn to read defenses, call audibles and run the team.

In basketball there are plenty of minutes to go around where the developing player does not have to be starting or even playing the bulk of minutes, especially early in the season, to be able to develop and mature throughout the season.

Very good post!

RE: This team sucks
I don't want this to be a throwaway year. I'm ready to see us back in the tournament after 4 years out. So if coming into this year we were coming off a borderline tournament appearance, and I thought playing our seniors heavy minutes would give us a good chance of being an at-large, that's what I'd be rooting for. I wouldn't want to sacrifice a tournament appearance for development. But that's not the case. We aren't expected to have much of a chance for an at-large bid. That leaves us with having to win the conference tournament, and I think our best chance at that will be getting big contributions from experienced freshman.

So IMO relying on the freshman now not only builds for future years, but gives us the best chance to make the tournament this year. Perhaps we finish with 19 wins instead of 22, but I like our chances of making a run in March a lot better. In that it reminds me of Joe Jackson's first year.

When the pre-season gurus picked us 8th in the conference everyone had a fit... screaming that we were better than that, how our players were great...etc.

IF we make the tourney this year it's been a great year. Better to install the offense, defense, systems etc and let the year play out.

The team does not "suck" ... we have bright spots and major weaknesses.

What did you really expect?

According to your ratings, David Wingett is 10 points better at defending than Kyvon. No one in their right mind would believe that... All of our post players are terrible defenders and Kyvon is no exception.

The link below shows just how bad Lomax, Enoh, Maurice, and Thornton are playing for anyone interested in analytics.

There is one obvious problem, Jeremiah Martin is not the player he was last year, he looks a half step slow.

Thornton provides good effort, but he makes some bonehead plays and has very poor hands.

Parks should be getting the ball in the post far more.

And finally, playing 2 guards at the same time under 5'10" is going to be a problem. And it's not just bigger guards posting them up or backing them down (that just isn't in most guards arsenal), it's on the defensive end, closing out on 3s. A 5'8" guy flying at a shooter is far different than a 6'4" guy.

At this point their biggest issue is just staying in front of their man. They have to realize they are not funneling their player to Wiseman and Malcolm yet, but rather Parks who plays below the rim and Maurice who is just not a good shot blocker.

Exactly right, SenorTiger. Some of us said this after the first game. If you are going to start small guards, they have to at least stay in front of the man they are defending.

Harris has been producing, it's Lomax that needs to produce points. The rest have seen more than two coaches, so I can't blame them for not being totally productive. Adjusting to a new system isn't easy. I hope DJ, Wiseman and company will produce like we think they can.

Not even a little. Like DJ Jeffries said, you can't expect him to unwind the last two years right away. But he might embarrass some fans whose ego depends on the accomplishments of a college basketball team.

It’s because they’re sitting on the bench. Brewton and Parks should be logging major minutes.

You're probably one of those people that wanted to start Piano Man over Paxton..
