Good job by McDermott to have the wits to keep his glove on the baserunner

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
Our fielding and pitching was great, save for a few bad throws to first. But the hitting needs work... 3 runs in 23 innings

Lineup for tomorrow needs to have Waldman out of it and Cone hitting higher in the lineup

So either Charleston or Elon will be eliminated before we even play again...possibly both of them! What a crazy tournament so far.

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
Tribe picked to finish 7th in the preseason poll, with no player getting preseason first team or honorable mention. They finish 3rd regular season, and now no worse than 3rd in the tournament, and again no one on the CAA first team. This has been a grind it out group with incredibly opportunistic at bats in the clutch.
Hopefully, they'll continue to find a way against a UNCW team who was supposed to be here. Go get it guys....Go Tribe!

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
A mighty win!
Good thing we won today because I was still stewing over the ump calling strike three early in the game on a 3-2 count (I think it was Socher at the plate). If he had called ball four then the Tribe would have had the bases loaded with only one out. A couple of runs there and the bullpen would have saved five innings.
UNCW has the mojo of their long-time coach retiring. We need to overcome that with more stellar pitching and Raquet hitting a couple more bombs.

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
The only real negative is that we blew out our closer. Farrell threw 61 pitches so he's probably not able to pitch until tomorrow. So it's our number three vs. their number three tonight. Should be fun.

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
The team played perfect baseball in a number of ways:
*executed three inning ending double plays flawlessly, two on difficult opportunities
*perfect sac bunt in the 14th inning by Matt McDermott to get Jack Cone to second. Then
a two-out single by Owen Socher to score the winning run
*A truly great play by pitcher Chris Farrell, backing up third base on the wild throw from first on the wild pickoff attempt, then a perfect throw home to nip the baserunner who was trying to score the winning,
walk-off run. Let me tell you: there would have been many major league pitchers who would NOT have been backing up the wild throw!
*And McDermott having the wherewithall to keep the tag on the stealing runner in the bottom of the 14th at second base to get the final out when the runner overslid the bag.
Say what you will...all this is reflective of a well-coached team executing basic baseball fundamentals
in high-stress situations.
And, of course, sensational hurling for 14 tense innings.
*Bodie Sheehan again, as he's done all down the final stretch of the season, was magnificent. His change of speeds and variety of pitches kept Charleston totally off-balance all night.
*Two soph pitchers, Randy Prosperi and Justin Pearson combined pitched eight shutout innings and struck out eight.
*And redshirt Junior Chris Farrell with another lights out clutch relief stint: four shutout innings with five ks...a repeat of his performance in the regular season's final win at Hofstra that got us in the tourney.
This was a great ballgame, a classic win, and one these guys will remember all their lives.

5-1
4-3 ... 13 innings
5-4 ... 10 innings
1-0 ... 14 innings
What else is there to say?

Agreed. The fact that we have really used up only one reliever (sucks that it is closer but so be it) after playing a 9 inning followed by a 14 inning game is pretty good. If our games were like some of the others in the tourney (8-6, 9-7 and 8-3 games), no doubt we would have had to have used up more pitchers but the pitching has been great allowing for more fresh arms as we go into our last few games of the CAA tourney

Tsaukounis threw six shutout innings against Wilmington earlier this year. We only had three hits in that game though. Let's get some hits and get to the finals.

UNCW bats have looked good in the tourney. I don't think we will be able to win another 1-0 or 2-1 game against their hot bats

That's just because they haven't been facing our pitching

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
Looks like Charleston started the game a little tired. Down 4-1 after 2 innings to Northeastern.
Northeastern if they advance needs their starter to go a ways They have already had 2 relievers go 70+ pitches (in addition to many pitches by their starters) and another go almost 40 pitches. Winner of this game plays immediately afterwards against Elon who has only played 1 game so far.

RE: 2019 Baseball Season
Charleston now loses to 8-7 Northeastern stranding 10 runners on base and having the tying run thrown at home trying to steal in the 9th (wasn't watching so who knows what happened?). Northeastern starter goes 104 pitches over 6 innings and 3 others close it out for the win. Northeastern on to its 4th game of the tournament against Elon who is in its 2nd game at 3:00 today.
