The plan was for Dean to be there all game. He obviously got hurt and Teddy took over. Teddy barely got first team reps. We got an upset over a top 20 team. LETS GO

Last season's scout team offensive player of the year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him start next game.

Maine's WR, Edwards, had nearly 200 yards. Good player. Seems one guy lights us up just about every game.

Excellent use of our TE corps in the face of Maine's excellent defensive line.

My keys to the game:
Maine had 13 penalties for 130 yards. Our guys were very disciplined.
We converted redzone possessions into points.
3 INTs, one saved what probably would've been a Maine TD and gave us 6 points and another sealed the victory.
2 inexperienced QBs acted like starters.
Finally, our OL only gave up two sacks and we sacked Maine's QB twice. I love that stat.

Dean was in a sling and Laycock said he had a shoulder problem. He won’t be back next week. It’ll either be Shon or Teddy.
That's too bad. Hope it isn't anything serious.

Hefter injured his non-throwing left shoulder, but I doubt he will be back soon. Shon should be ready next week.

In Laycocks post game interview, someone asked him if Shon would’ve been used as an emergency, since shon was dressed. Laycock called it a tough call. That gives me reason to believe Shon will be back next week.

RE: Maine (homecoming)
Great win!!

Some thoughts:

1. Boy it sure is great to see the difference that making your kicks makes!! Although I did hold my breath on every single kick and I did wonder why it was Hooper at all and not Johnston. But nothing stops the criticism better than making the kicks. Hope it carries over for the rest of the season.

2. The defense played great! That is, the result was great and the effort was great and Bill Murray and Arman Jones really stood out. However, I have to say this: I have watched Tribe football since 1974 and I don't think that I have ever seen a game where so many of the first Tribe defenders failed to make the tackle. It seemed like every play the Tribe was in position to make great stops but the first man up would fail to make the tackle and the runner would wind up getting another 5-7 yards. I think that I am the only poster who has mentioned this but I'm sure that I am not the only fan who saw it. It's right there on film. Fortunately, there was enough gang tackling that we were still able to make the plays. That is the difference -- I have watched plenty of other games where the Tribe failed to make tackles, but they didn't make ANY tackles in those game and lost dismally whereas today the first tackles were missed but the gang tackling was not.

3. If Maine is the 16th best team in the country then FCS football must be really down this year (which, actually, I think it is). That is too bad -- this season is shaping up as one of those years where a 7-4 team from the CAA could easily make the playoffs. On the other hand, if we play like we did today the rest of the way then I could see wins against Rhode Island, Villanova, and Richmond (a win against Richmond in Jimmye's finale is a given). Unfortunately, that would put us at 6-4 and on the outside looking in. Should have won that game against Colgate .....Wait -- is it too late to schedule The Little Sisters of the Poor for our bye week?

Except, to me, I can't figure out how/why Shon won that competition. Both Rotger and Hefter have shown me more (in far less opportunities) than Shon has (although I thought Shon showed spark and charisma in the Albany comeback, that is the only time I thought he has looked good).

Having said that, since it looks like Shon will be the starter again next week, then I'll jump on board the Mitchell express and hope for the best.

What? How about he has put up middle of the conference numbers against stiff competition. I don’t think we are in any better of a position at this point in the season if either of the other two had started (though they both performed admirably today and make me confident in our depth at the position)

Let’s enjoy the win and not make it a chance to second guess

Okay, but I am simply saying that for me it is not about "the numbers" but it is all about the wins. Yes, I'll grant that Shon has played in some tough games that probably nobody would have won -- but I just see different sparks when the other guys are out there that I saw only one time with Shon. So, going forward, don't anyone rag on me for calling it as I see it and, as I said, I am all aboard with whoever is starting next week (but if all three were 100% healthy, I would start Rotger).

Great Defense and Team effort in the win. The team showed spirit today and a no quit attitude. Play selection by the staff was better on offense and glad to see the D was given the chance to blitz more! No question this game was won by the D with a few timely bombs thrown by the O to help get us points.

Wish the scoreboard and announcer did a better job of encouraging fan involvement-the crowd got into the game but we could have been louder at time prior to the 4th Quarter on some of the 3rd down plays!!

Next 3 games are all winnable with RI being crushed by Stonybrook yesterday and both Nova and Richmond having worse seasons than us.

RE: Maine (homecoming)
Despite raining all day right up to kickoff (sun actually came out for the first time at the kickoff)
over 10,000 at game for Homecoming. Had we not have the heavy morning/early afternoon rain
this game probably would have been a sellout.

Glad to see substantial student turnout...they really got into it in the fourth quarter and made lots of noise and, did my eyes deceive me, standing much of the time!

Another win, by the way, for the 1940s All-Green (with silver stripes) uniforms which Jimmye, as I had mentioned a day or so ago, would pull out for Homecoming. They are really good-looking unis and we should use them for all home games.

Fun game to watch and great win! So many guys on defense had great games, but I’ll give a shout out to Dulaney. Guy was all over the field making tackles and had a key interception towards the end. Muse is a stud, so hope we can continue to get him very involved. Klaus is another good TE - not sure if we can figure out a way to have him and Muse on the field at the same time similar to what the Patriots used to do with their two-headed TE attack.

+1 to all of these. This win felt like it was not as close as the score. Maine was a high powered big play offense, and we kept those to a minimum.

They need to get someone younger than 65 on the PA. Ive been complaining about this for years. Emotionless and impossible to get hyped by a combination of him and discordant music/videos/band .

After getting back on line, I wanted to point out how well Bill Murray played. He was totally gassed at the end, but made a ton of plays. He's a stud and we will have a really strong defensive front coming back next year. I like the energy of Bessant and you can see that he will get stronger with his upper body in the off season.

Bessant has a low center of gravity, and should be able to get leverage.

Murray was limping, but really turned it on at the end of the game.

I was alarmed at first, thinking that both Hefter and Rotger were hurt. I'm assuming you meant Rotger here.

+1 If you pay attention to the game day experience, there are a few schools that come to mind that have raised the bar. JMU and Towson come to mind as recent examples. As soon as the play is whistled dead, relevant music is played along with videos that support the current situation on the field. It really helps getting the home fan bases pumped up and more attentive to the game IMO. We have all the new infrastructure/equipment to support a more exciting experience and may need to commit more expertise/resources to work the technology.

Agree that the game would feel more hype if the music was more on-point and played at the right times. I've always been a big fan of our PA announcer, though, for the job he does with both football and basketball. And if he's older than 65, he's aged very well.

In 2009, now the distant glory days of the Tribe defense, the 3rd down experience with the announcer's call and "Crazy Train" for a few seconds in the background got Zable rocking. Simple and effective.
