Maine (homecoming) - TribePride52 - 10-15-2018 09:09 PM

Shon is uncertain for Saturday and Devonte is unlikely to play (per twitter). We’ll see how it goes

Any word on Herdman. He earned the starting position at FS and brings the hammer down as a tackler. He was absent the whole second half last game and was sorely missed as we started giving up chunks of yards

RE: Maine (homecoming) - bubbadog57 - 10-16-2018 05:22 AM

Daily Press quotes Jimmye this morning as saying Dedmon is "most probably out of the Maine game". He refused to specify the injury, saying, in Laycock's enigmatic language, "it's just another injury".

He is also "uncertain" about Mitchell's availability.

Nothing said about Herdman.

Barring big upset we may be in for another Homecoming pasting like last year's JMU rout.
To make matters drearier, rain is the long-range forecast.

RE: Maine (homecoming) - Tribe3455 - 10-16-2018 08:25 AM

Herdman out the entire second half. Fowler was hurt at some point in the first half and didn’t return. Towson came out after half and just ran the ball like crazy. Thanks to Murray blocking every kicked ball it seemed like and Jones’ run back we stayed close. We need all the healthy bodies we can get to hang in with a physical Maine squad.

Any hurricanes in the forecast?

Missed it by one month .... The Elon-W&M game was cancelled.

That Maine game from years ago started a trend!

:-)

RE: Maine (homecoming) - TribePride52 - 10-16-2018 03:16 PM

Shon listed as the starter in the two deep. Dean the backup. Dedmon not there.
EDIT: Bruce Rader of WAVYTV confirms that Shon is questionable and Devonte is out.

RE: Maine (homecoming) - bubbadog57 - 10-17-2018 05:26 AM

The two-deeps are unreliable, to say the least.

And, by the way, all-day rain Saturday seems much firmer in the forecasts. Hoping they're wrong.

Normally agree, but there are actual changes on this two deep.

Weather will be a factor, and both teams will be impacted.

NWS forecast is for morning showers, mainly by noon.

Where are you guys getting the “news” of all day rain / weather being a factor?

It’s actually a non factor in the outcome of the game, since both teams will playing in the same conditions.

Now fan turn out is different, will it dampen the turn out of the homecoming crowd.

RE: Maine (homecoming) - TribePride52 - 10-17-2018 08:45 AM

The bottom of this article states Shon is not expected to play.

RE: Maine (homecoming) - Tribeheart - 10-17-2018 08:53 AM

Weather forecast varies. Some with 60% chance with morning rain only, others with 90% chance and rain all day.

If game time rain, though Mitchell will be missed, having Rotger's legs to help open up the running game may be a blessing in this one.

Another week another TOP 20 Team

Missing starting QB and star WR/Main Playmaker going up against the NUMBER TWO RUSH DEFENSE IN FCS? Sounds like a matchup nightmare. Our pass offense wasn't anything extremely noteworthy but it was the only thing really moving the chains for us. Not the game we want to have to try and get the run game going.

Maine is allowing a staggering 66 Rush YPG and has allowed only 399 yards rushing all year. For comparison they are holding opponents to almost a full yard per carry less than the #8 Rush defense Colgate we faced (1.89 - 2.66), and twenty yards fewer per game.

Other guys will have to step up and execute their job, and the coaches will have to put them in a good position to succeed, and as always: win the turnover battle. (and maybe make a field goal but that's probably too much to ask).

The weather shouldn't be much of a factor, even if it is still wet at game time. Maine doesn't throw the ball well (rank behind us in CAA) and will already be looking to run all over our worst in the conference rush defense.

This team has had our number the past 4 years, hopefully we can compete Saturday.

Seriously? Even though both teams play in the same conditions, the weather absolutely would be a factor in any game because it depends on the style of play of the two teams. Passing teams generally fare worse in wet, muddy conditions because it is harder for receivers to make their cuts and to catch wet balls. Running teams usually do better in the slop. Ergo, if Maine can't pass but does run well and the Tribe does not stop the run well, and if the Tribe is not running well because Maine stops the run well, then that would seem to indicate that Maine has the decided advantage in Saturday's game.

Haven't you ever heard the expression "whine gets better with age"?

We play on FieldTurf. There will be no mud, and no slop. Worst effect is a wet ball.

Then it favors Maine all the more.
