Congratulations! It will be a yes vote. I am concerned however, that the yes vote will set free a monster within the SBC that may bite all of us in a few years. Regardless, USA deserves the on campus stadium and all the fun that comes with it.

USA's football facility building set off a bit of an arms race in the SBC when they opened in 2008. I imagine this stadium could do something similar, but it seems several programs are already working on improving their stadiums already.

I'm all for you but don't get the big head. Your football facility did not set off any kind of an arms race and your stadium won't either. But it will be nice for you and help your program and the conference. Now go and enjoy your celebration.

ASU coaches saw the facilities and refused to practice for the GoDaddy Bowl in it so their players wouldn’t see it. So the MAC team used it.

That's what I was told as well. Soon after, Arkansas State (and Troy, who was there in 2010) started making strides in improving their own facilities.

I promise. The $sixty million plus State has invested in just the past few years in our stadium had nothing to do with your football facility. I'm doubtful the expansions of Ga. Southern, UL, Coastal, Texas State or that underway by App had anything to do with your facility. Troy? maybe a little.

Actually, the original point I made was that it spurred improvements in facilities that weren't stadiums. I promise you that USA had (and still has) one of the nicest football office/locker room/weight room facilities in the Sun Belt and it encouraged other schools to follow suit.

This is rich ... these projects at other schools would have been done with or without South Alabama. You think that maybe those schools didn’t want to practice at your facility because they didn’t want your branding in any of their imagery from Bowl week?

Just a little historical context - Arkansas State played Northern Illinois in the GoDaddy.com bowl in Mobile on January 8, 2012. That was the year ASU declined to bring their players to USA's facility.

From the Centennial Bank Stadium Wikipedia Page:
"In 2013, Arkansas State University announced plans to build a $27 million Football Operations Center with an indoor practice field, weight rooms, lockers, medical centers, and staff offices."

No one is saying the projects wouldn't have been done eventually, just that USA got a couple of them jump started.
And USA folks were told exactly why ASU didn't want to use their facilities and it had nothing to do with imagery.

You are right, a new coach along with a new AD probably had nothing to do with our facilities upgrades......even though they have been needed for 20 years. I'm sure it was just that trip that did it. Thank you for getting us moving.

I didn’t realize someone saying our school making investments encouraged others to finally make their investments would be such a touchy topic with some people.

Getting back on topic, the stadium is going to be where our current intramural fields are. A couple months ago they started building the new intramural fields. They are widening Schillinger Road now and will need to widen Cody Road. Lots of moving pieces already in place.

It looks good. I hope you get it. Of course there are no water features so it's still a bit behind.....

It’s going to be a big help in recruiting. Even though I never thought the stadium should be a big factor to recruits, opposing coaches have been emphasizing it and making it an issue.

I wouldn’t mind at all if they added a distinctive feature like Arkansas State’s waterfall. Maybe a slide into a giant beer like Bernie the Brewer used to do.

Best of luck South, hope you get the approval! Not sure of plans from other schools but I personally believe the warhawks and cajuns are the only other schools in the conference with dated venues. You guys are up!

Doesn't make sense to have practices at Ladd-Peebles Stadoim. Why lug around all your football gear between the USA campus and Ladd.

Of the Dollar General Bowl and Senior Bowl move from Ladd, then is there any real purpose for the stadium to exist?

1. some Senior bowl practices are currently held across the bay in Daphne iirc
edit re: above- I googled and cant find any info about it being anywhere but at Ladd. I could have sworn there were senior bowl practices across the bay at some point in the past. maybe they stopped doing it
edit 2: I found it. Fairhope in 2015

I've always dreamt that in a post apocalyptic North America, Ladd Peebles will be where all the cool gladiator fights are held.

All the NFL coaches and scouts stay in hotels downtown. They are comfortable with the way things are for the practices, media activities, weigh in/measurement, and other activities that take place during Senior Bowl week. Those activities would all stay downtown. They are not going to to want to bus to USA each day to practice. Probably only the game itself would move to USA.
