WOW. What a slap in the face.
Now you know what UAB has to deal with. There is a segment of the politic that feels that any development of a UAB/USA football programs will diminish the support for UAT. Which is crazy but practical thinking.

He was bringing up the history of Alabama playing at Ladd during its first 20 years of life and implying how that makes it a historical sight. I’m 44 years old, have no memory of Alabama ever playing at that stadium. Just another homer Alabama fan showing their ass.

Alabama quit playing at Ladd when their stadium had a higher capacity than Ladd(40,000), they are not coming back. The city has had its chance to keep Ladd modern.

They way I perceive what is going on at the moment is...
The Senior Bowl officials have told the City of Mobile to improve Ladd Stadium (tear it down and rebuild) or the game will be moved to another city. Mobile City/County will lose the sales revenues and taxes if the week long festivities and game is moved to another city, maybe Montgomery or Birmingham. My understanding is that the majority of the practices and events were actually located in Baldwin County (aka Mobile - Eastern Shore). If UWF had an OCS the game would have be moved to Pensacola in a heartbeat.
The fact of the matter is that Ladd Stadium host home games for four high schools, Leflore, McGill-Toolen, Murphy, and Williamson. The stadium was old when I played in it. The city needs to spend money to upgrade the facility period.

A few things:
Dollar General Bowl has been supportive of playing in a new stadium. Previous Senior Bowl executive manager was as well. I don't think either has issued an ultimatum.
The game wouldn't move to Montgomery or Birmingham. The most oft-rumored city is Orlando.
The majority of practices have not been held in Baldwin County. There have been some practices across the bay, but I'm pretty sure practices haven't happened in Baldwin County in a couple/few years.
If UWF had a stadium the game wouldn't move there in a heartbeat.
McGill-Toolen built a stadium in 2008. They play at Lipscomb Stadium off Michael Blvd. The teams that play at Ladd Stadium are Davidson, Williamson, Murphy, and LeFlore.

I thought McGill now played at the Lip??? Ladd essentially sits in Williamson’s back yard, let the school board have it. If they don’t want it, sell it and be done with that property.
South is offering money back to the city to help rebuild/refurbish Ladd as a properly sized high school stadium. There is no reason, financially or otherwise, that the city shouldn’t get behind the OCS.

The stadium looks awesome! I can’t wait to see it in person.
You could be thinking of my post. I was one of the first to congratulate USA on the idea and wish them well. Then, all of us are told that a single facility that USA now has was the impetus for hundreds of millions of dollars in imporvements that universities across the SBC made. I know how hard State fans and every school worked, planned, pleaded, and fund raised for their improvments and it had absolutely nothing to do with USA. In reality, SBC improvements (particularly Troy's) is probably the impetus for USA taking action. Just accept the compliments Jags and move on.
You have to be kidding. The impetus is that South is tired of playing in a 60+year old stadium that was outdated years ago that located 30 minutes from the campus.

Oh okay, I thought it was UMS Wright that built the stadium over by Davidson.
The bottom line is that the city needs to get behind South Alabama's proposal to keep the Senior Bowl and other bowl games from moving out of town.

Just to get the facts out there, the Senior Bowl is owned by a Mobile civic group. It's not the Senior Bowl itself that is in danger, but rather the official association it has with the NFL. If the NFL wants better facilities for this event and Mobile doesn't provide them, there are plenty of cities that will put together a Senior Bowl-like event for them to move to.

The city of Mobile should do just about whatever the NFL asks to keep that event the way it is. The attention as well as the tourist dollars that come during that event is irreplaceable. It puts Mobile right in the center of the football universe for a week. No college games or NFL games to compete with.

I'll just add this: I hope we have a nice statue of Coach Joey Jones near the stadium entrance...he's earned the honor IMO.

Joe Jag, you didn't read through the thread and entirely missed the point of my post. Forgetting that, I hope USA gets the stadium you want soon. No debate here.

RE: USA Board of Trustees to Vote Tomorrow on Construction of On-Campus Stadium
Looks like the vote from the city has been delayed to at least July 31st. One more USA Stadium development: D7 Councilwoman Gina Gregory says that she plans a community meeting for Hillsdale residents concerned about impact of stadium development. No date yet.
