Don’t understand why they don’t cover the endzones but not the sidelines if that’s an actual rendering. USL soccer would do well there.

Odd layout to me.

Is it to give a wider view of the scenery?

I get the impression that there is not a final design, and that the Request For Proposals on December 15 will be for Design/Build bids.

The old Aloha Stadium originally had movable stands that would permit a configuration for baseball (and soccer). The sketch looks vaguely like a baseball stadium from behind home plate, with the stands coming in towards the foul lines further out.

Looks like the open side is for the video board and view of mountains.
The stage will go there during concerts 340 million plus should be nice.

Really nice stadium should be great.
I tell you the temporary stadium impresses me getting it to 18k.
U Mass has stayed at 17k for years and it has hurt them.

That plus the path of the sun and the video board is probably in play too. It makes sense to me.

I don't know the rules, but I wonder if Tarleton is still in a transition phase, so that makes it tough for them to move up to FBS? They may not be up to the full 63 FCS scholarships ye
Sun Belt took JMU.

I don't think for a lot of reasons Tarleton is an option. Their best bet is a WAC return to FBS.

I actually think Tarleton State is a lock for C-USA, they were rumored in discussions already and it seems the C-USA route is to go 2-team pods for travel. I'm more interested in who LA Tech's partner would be, my guess would be Central Arkansas if they get the greenlight to join. It's looking East on how they want to do it.
See to believe. Tarleton looks like an FCS school in every category. And not sure anyone is chasing their micropolitan area and $43M endowment.

They have the means (deep pocket donors) and desire to be FBS.

They draw more at D2 than SHSU DOes at FCS. They will have no issues drawing 15k playing teams like UTEP, LTU, NMSU, etc.

They dominate their small market in the same fashion that App does the High Country/Hickory/Morganton/Lenoir/Wilkes/Newton/Conover.

Having a 17k-18k in a 20k person stadium will look good.

Correct. The C-shaped conceptual design is optimized for concerts, with the stage to be situated under the video board. The designers were told to come up with a multi-use configuration since in recent years Aloha Stadium has drawn as large or larger crowds for big-name concerts as for UH football. The view is toward the mountains instead of Pearl Harbor because the afternoon sun is on the Pearl Harbor side. The positioning of the canopies will keep most of the seating shaded and cool.

Personally I would rather see a U-shaped design that's optimized for football, but of course that's my bias as a 25-year-plus UH season ticket holder.

This is another conceptual rendering, showing how the new stadium would look hosting a concert:

Actually just 9K. The plan is to upgrade to 15K for next season, maybe a little larger thereafter.

I have to say that the playing atmosphere on campus has been pretty great due to the increased student participation. The student section has been packed and loud for home games:

I think USF is sitting pretty if the Big 12 expands again, as has been intimated by their decision makers. Honestly, they make more sense than either Memphis or Boise State, in my view. However, that’s only true if they have the demonstrated willingness to compete at that level - and that means facilities.

The Big 12 has made curious decisions for a long time now, so I don’t pretend to know what they’re thinking is here. However, if it were up to me, USF and Memphis make a lot more sense than any other combination of programs.

UCF might see things differently. I know they only have one vote in the overall say, but, they may make a compelling argument to keep themselves the lone Florida school, but, who knows?

Memphis seems to go back a few years with the remaining SWC schools. But, you might have some resistance from WVU and Cincy. Don’t know whether both are ardent supporters for Memphis. I got the impression over the years WVU was not.

My guess is that UCF would support USF to the Big 12. Travel partner. Rivalry.

I hope USF builds an OCS. I lived out west until last year. I just went to my first games at the Bounce House this season. I was shocked at the atmosphere. If there was 40 k in the stadium it felt like another 20 k outside of the stadium on the mall and in the athletic village. There were bands and food. I was really shocked. USF has to have an OCS. It makes all the difference.

Aztec Stadium Update vid. You can see the student section has mesa shaped seating at the top. When this thing is done it will be the nicest CFB stadium on the west coast by a mile.

What's "mesa shaped seating"? Where's the student section?

its actually the seating section on the opposite end of the stadium in frame of that youtube vid.
The "Mesa" is that extra seating on the left side of the endzone. That entire section, including right behind the endzone is for students.

Nothing concrete yet but this came out of the blue:

Quote:Nearly ten days ago, deep pocketed billionaire University of Miami booster John Ruiz made it clear he and his family were ready to ‘substantially’ support the UM athletic department moving forward.

Ruiz didn’t reveal any details in that interview with InsideTheU, but according to a source with knowledge, Ruiz and his family are set to lead the charge and launch an ambitious plan for UM to have what will essentially be an on campus football stadium.

The source says Ruiz, who is an attorney, entrepreneur, and founder of a firm called MSP Recovery and is set to be worth over $20 billion, according to Forbes.com, envisions a 50,000 seat stadium on the site of what is currently Coral Gables High School.

The source says that Ruiz is currently exploring other locations to build a new Coral Gables High School before starting on the stadium project.

The current Coral Gables High School location is on a 24.6 acre lot that is on the corner of Bird Road and Le Jeune Rd. It is less than two miles away from the University of Miami campus. A 50,000 seat stadium typically requires 13 acres of land.

The source says the Ruiz family already owns an acre lot across from Havana Harry’s restaurant, which is on Le Jeune Rd. in Coral Gables, and the vision for that lot is for it to be could be an eight-story garage for additional parking.

50,000 seat stadium is a long ways from the old interest in Miami football. I remember when I rooted so hard against Miami because they were so good. They fell off quickly since the Big East days
